PLACENCIA SLAM CAPS 7-RUN 7TH FOR 66ERS

The Inland Empire 66ers scored seven runs in the seventh inning to come back on Stockton for an 8-5 win at Banner Island Ballpark Wednesday night. Adrian Placencia hit a grand slam to cap off the rally and as Inland Empire (9-8) moved above .500, one game out of first place in the South division.

Stockton built a 3-0 lead before Alexander Ramirez launched a solo homer (6) in the sixth inning to make it 3-1. In the seventh, IE loaded the bases with the first three batters on a single, walk and HBP and, one out later, a Stockton error enabled the 66ers to tie the game at 3-3.

RAWHIDE WIN IN 10, GIANTS LOSE 6TH STRAIGHT

The Visalia Rawhide got a run in the top of the 10th inning to edge the San Jose Giants 5-4 on Tuesday night at Excite Ballpark. Junior Franco singled in the installed runner for the deciding run and the Rawhide (9-7) pulled even with Lake Elsinore at the top of the South Division.

Deyvison De Los Santos had three hits and moved his batting average up to .319, second in the Cal League among active players. Jacen Roberson was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

LAKE ELSINORE’S MARCOS CASTANON, INLAND EMPIRE’S KELVIN CACERES NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER, PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Lake Elsinore SS Marcos Castanon and Inland Empire RHP Kelvin Caceres have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for July 4 – 10.

MARCOS CASTANON– 8-for-22 against Visalia with two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBIs and six walks. Castanon is currently sixth in the Cal League in OBP (.407), ninth in SLG (.480) and seventh in OPS (.887).

 

KELVIN CACERES -In two appearances against Rancho Cucamonga last week, Caceres pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and one walk along with one unearned run while striking out seven. Caceres is 10th in the Cal League in strikeouts with 73 in 45 2/3 IP.

STOCKTON SHUTS OUT MODESTO 4-0, GETS SERIES WIN

The Stockton Ports won for the second day in a row, shutting out the Modesto Nuts 4-0 at John Thurman Field on Sunday night. Danny Bautista launched his fourth homer of the year and Luke Anderson (W, 5-6) threw 5 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win as Stockton took four of the six games in Modesto.

T.J. Schofield-Sam tripled in the first run of the day in the second inning and CJ Rodriguez followed with a sac fly to make it 2-0. Yehizon Sanchez went the first three innings for Stockton and left with the lead after giving up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

GRIZZLIES RALLY LATE TO BEAT SAN JOSE 5-4

Juan Brito doubled in three runs three runs in the seventh inning to give the Fresno Grizzlies the lead and three relievers made it stand up as they came back to beat San Jose 5-4 on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park. The win put Fresno (9-5) into a first-place tie with Modesto in the North division.

San Jose took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth on a Garrette Frechette groundout and a Grant McCray RBI single. Angel Chivilli (W, 1-0) came on to get the last out for Fresno and end the rally.

MODESTO SHUTS OUT STOCKTON 6-0

The Modesto Nuts maintained their one-game lead in the North division with a 6-0 shutout of the Stockton Ports on Friday night at John Thurman Field. Walking Cabrera singled in three runs in the first inning and Colin Davis homered and drove in two runs to lead the offense.

Jordan Jackson (W, 5-7) went six shutout innings for Modesto, allowing two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. Tyler Driver pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Raul Alcantara threw a scoreless ninth inning. Stockton was held to just three hits.

RAWHIDE PULL EVEN WITH STORM WITH 6-3 WIN

The Visalia Rawhide got two-run homers from Juan Corniel (2) and Junior Franco (11) as they beat Lake Elsinore 6-3 on Thursday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. The win tied Visalia with the Storm at the top of the South division, both teams having 7-5 records.

Peniel Otano (W, 2-4) went five innings and allowed one run (0 ER) on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts to earn the win. Eric Mendez (S, 1) covered the final 1 2/3 innings and didn’t allow a run on one hit and no walks with three strikeouts for the save.

STORM ROUT RAWHIDE, TAKE ONE-GAME LEAD IN SOUTH

The Lake Elsinore Storm had a 7-run inning to pull out to a big lead and dropped the Visalia Rawhide 13-1 at Valley Strong Ballpark Wednesday night. Marcos Castanon homered (10) and drove in three runs. James Wood had three hits and five RBIs.

The Storm (7-4) evened the series at one game apiece and took a one-game lead in the South division over the Rawhide (6-5).

FRESNO’S HUNTER GOODMAN, LAKE ELSINORE’S GARRETT HAWKINS NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Fresno C Hunter Goodmand and Lake Elsinore RHP Garrett Hawkins have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for June 27-July 3.

HUNTER GOODMAN – A fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft, Goodman went 10-for-24 with two doubles and four home runs against Stockton last week.  The 22-year old is leading the league in HRs (22) and is second in RBI (68), SLG (.592) and OPS (.960).

 

GARRETT HAWKINS -The 2021 9th round pick out of Canada threw the first seven innings of Lake Elsinore’s combined no-hitter against Inland Empire on Friday. Hawkins, a 6’5″ 250-lb right hander, struck out seven with no hits or walks in earning his fourth win of the season.

RAMIREZ KNOCKS IN GAME-WINNER FOR 66ERS IN 4-3 WIN OVER QUAKES

Alexander Ramirez doubled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Inland Empire 66ers beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4-3 on Monday night at San Manuel Stadium. Jack Kochanowicz went 7 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (2 ER) on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts but got a no-decision.

The 66ers (4-6) got their four runs on just five hits with Adrian Placencia leading the offense with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
