66ERS WIN BEHIND EARLY HOMERS, GOFF’S 9 K’S

The Inland Empire 66ers went came out of the break swinging with two first-inning home runs on their way to a 6-2 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm at San Manuel Stadium Friday night. Alexander Ramirez and David Calabrese went back-to-back to get the scoring started and Julio Goff (W, 6 -7) whiffed nine LE hitters in five innings.

Ramirez hit a two-run shot to put IE up 2-0 with two outs in the first, his seventh home run of the season. Calabrese followed with his fourth of the year to make it 3-0.

PLACENCIA SLAM CAPS 7-RUN 7TH FOR 66ERS

The Inland Empire 66ers scored seven runs in the seventh inning to come back on Stockton for an 8-5 win at Banner Island Ballpark Wednesday night. Adrian Placencia hit a grand slam to cap off the rally and as Inland Empire (9-8) moved above .500, one game out of first place in the South division.

Stockton built a 3-0 lead before Alexander Ramirez launched a solo homer (6) in the sixth inning to make it 3-1. In the seventh, IE loaded the bases with the first three batters on a single, walk and HBP and, one out later, a Stockton error enabled the 66ers to tie the game at 3-3.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA’S KENNETH BETANCOURT AND STOCKTON’S KYLE VIRBITSKY NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Rancho Cucamonga SS Kenneth Betancourt and Stockton RHP Kyle Virbitsky have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for June 13- 19.

KENNETH BETANCOURT– The 22-year old from Venezuela went 8-for-15 against Inland Empire last week with two doubles, one triple, and five walks with just one strikeout. In the month of June, Betancourt has hit .370/.477/.556 with 11 walks and 10 strikeouts in 54 ABs.

 

KYLE VIRBITSKY – The 2021 draft pick out of Penn State threw seven shutout innings against the Visalia Rawhide on Friday, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out nine. Virbitsky is sixth in the California League with 58 IP and ninth in strikeouts with 60.

QUAKES BEAT STORM WITH 1-HITTER

Jerming Rosario went five perfect innings for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night and Alex De Jesus hit his fourth home run of the season in a 4-0 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. Rosario (W, 1-2) combined with Octavio Becerra and Joan Valdez to throw a one-hit shutout.

Rosario allowed no hits or walks while striking out six and threw 59 pitches of which 42 were strikes. Becerra allowed the only hit, a seventh-inning double to Marcos Castanon, while walking one and striking out two over two innings. Valdez covered the final two innings with a walk and a strikeout while throwing 25 pitches, 14 for strikes.
