DALTON RUSHING, JOSEPH HERNANDEZ NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Rancho Cucamonga C Dalton Rushing and Modest RHP Joseph Hernandez have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 22-28.

DALTON RUSHING– In six games at Visalia, Rushing went 12-for-23 with five doubles, one homer, five walks and seven RBIs. Over the last two games of the series, the 2022 second-round pick went 7-for-10. In 19 games with Rancho Cucamonga, Rushing is batting .485/.586/.882.

 

JOSEPH HERNANDEZ – Over two starts against San Jose last week, Hernandez threw 12 innings and allowed one run on five hits with five walks and 16 strikeouts. The 22-year old from the Dominican Republic leads the Cal League qualifiers with a 1.11 WHIP and a .192 batting average against.

PORTS WIN PITCHER’S DUEL WITH RUN IN THE 9TH

The Stockton Ports squeezed home a run in the top of the ninth inning and made it stand up for a 1-0 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park on Sunday night. Four pitchers combined on the shutout as the Ports ended a five-game losing streak.

A one-out double by Cam Masterman in the ninth inning put the eventual winning run in scoring position. Pinch runner Junior Perez advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on a bunt by Cooper Uhl.

The Stockton pitching staff was led by Mitch Myers who pitched into the seventh inning of a scoreless tie. Myers went 6 1/3 innings and gave up two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Garrett Irvin, Luke Anderson (W, 8-7) and Hunter Breault (S, 9) kept the Grizzlies off the board the rest of the way.

Grizzlies starter Jarrod Cande went six innings and allowed six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Grizzlies (37-21) maintained a two-game lead in the North division. They will host Modesto in a six-games series that starts Tuesday at 6:50PM. The Ports (17-37) return home for a six-game series with San Jose starting Tuesday at 7:05PM.

QUAKES WIN THIRD STRAIGHT IN VISALIA

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes racked up 14 hits and put 12 runs on the board as they won their third straight game, a 12-4 thrashing of Visalia, on Saturday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Luis Rodriguez had two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Quakes.

Rayne Doncon got the scoring going in the third inning with a two-run homer, his first since joining Rancho.  Rodriguez doubled in a pair later in the inning to make it 4-0.

GRIFIN DOERSCHING, JORDY VARGAS NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Lake Elsinore 1b Griffin Doersching and Fresno RHP Jordy Vargas have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 15-21.

GRIFFIN DOERSCHING– Over six game last week, Doersching went 10-for-23 against Stockton with six home runs. On Saturday and Sunday, the 2022 8th-round draft pick had back-to-back two-homer games and went 6-for-9 with seven RBIs. In eight games with Lake Elsinore, Doresching is batting .370/.514/1.037.

 

JORDY VARGAS – On Tuesday against Visalia, Vargas threw five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts. It was the second start for the 18-year old from the Dominican Republic. Over nine innings with the Grizzlies, Vargas has struck out 12 and opponents are batting .172.

QUERO, VAN SCOYOC LEAD 66ERS OVER SAN JOSE

Edgar Quero doubled, tripled and homered (15) and Connor Van Scoyoc threw six shutout innings for the Inland Empire 66ers in a 5-0 win over the San Jose Giants on Sunday night at Excite Ballpark. Van Scoyoc (W, 9-4) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out 11.

Quero tripled in a run in the two-run first inning to get the 66ers off and running and San Jose never got on the scoreboard against Von Scoyoc and two relievers. Quero also had two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored.

MODESTO GETS TWO IN 9TH, HOLDS ON FOR WIN

The Modesto Nuts broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run ninth inning and then withstood a Rancho Cucamonga rally to win 6-5 on Saturday night at LoanMart Field. Harry Ford and three hits and homered for the second straight night to lead the Nuts.

Sam Carlson went six innings for Modesto and left with a 3-1 lead after giving up a run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The Nuts stretched it to 4-1 with a sac fly in the seventh before the Quakes tied it up with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
