GRIZZLIES BLAST PORTS WITH 6 HRs, 22 RUNS, 20 HITS

The Fresno Grizzlies (1-3) got their first win of the second half with a loud 22-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark. The first-half North division champions belted out 20 hits including five doubles, a triple and six home runs.

Zach Kokoska was 4-for-6 with a triple and a homer (7). Warming Bernabel had two home runs (7, 8) and drove in five runs. Yanquiel Fernandez had three hits, including his 7th homer, and three walks and scored four times. Juan Guerrero drove in four runs.

GRIZZLIES RUN UP THE SCORE ON RAWHIDE, STRETCH LEAD

The Fresno Grizzlies continued their dominance over the Visalia Rawhide with a 15-5 win on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park. The home team pounded out 15 hits and drew 12 walks while blasting four home runs, including a grand slam by Trevor Boone. With the win, the Grizzlies (37-19) stretched their lead over San Jose in the North division to five games.

Victor Juarez (W, 4-0) had a dominant start, going 6IP with 0 runs allowed on 2 H, 0 BB and 6 K. Juarez leads the California League in ERA (2.41), WHIP (0.92) and Opp Batting Average (.197).

GRIZZLIES POWER PAST RAWHIDE, 8-7

The Fresno Grizzlies got back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning from Warming Bernabel (6) and Hunter Goodman (14) to come from a run down and win 8-7 at Chukchansi Park on Tuesday night. Yanquiel Fernandez hit a grand slam (4) in the second inning to get the scoring started.

Diomede Sierra started for Visalia and pitched a scoreless first inning but then was touched up for 6 runs (5 ER) in the second. Fresno starter Jarrod Cande had nearly the same experience, throwing two shutout innings before the Rawhide answered with a five-run third inning. Only two of the runs were charged to Cande.

STOCKTON HOLDS OFF FRESNO 10-8 AS TEAMS TRADE SLAMS LATE

Nick Brueser‘s eighth-inning grand slam proved just enough for Stockton to outlast the Fresno Grizzlies in a wildly entertaining game on Saturday night at Chuckchansi Park. Brueser’s blast gave the Ports a late 10-4 lead, but the home team got a slam of its own from Trevor Boone in a long bottom of the ninth inning before falling just short in a 10-8 Stockton win.

The Ports got on the board first in the second inning with a three-run rally started by a Junior Perez single. Back-to-back doubles by T.J. Schofield-Sam and Robert Puason made it 2-0 before Max Muncy made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

VISALIA WINS WITH 11-RUN INNING

The Visalia Rawhide came up in the top of the sixth inning trailing 6-1 at Rancho Cucamonga Friday night. They sent 15 men to the plate and scored 11 runs and went on to win 13-10.

Deyvison De Los Santos had 3 hits and SP Chen was 2-4 with a double and a walk and drove in four runs. Visalia had 12 hits and drew 10 walks.

Luis Rodriguez was 3-4 and hit his 4th home run of the season for the Quakes. They also got homers from Damon Keith (5), Yeiner Fernandez (2) and Julio Carrion (3).

FRESNO’S HUNTER GOODMAN, VISALIA’S LIAM NORRIS NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Fresno catcher Hunter Goodman and Visalia LHP Liam Norris have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 9 – 15.

HUNTER GOODMAN – Fresno Grizzlies catcher Hunter Goodman was 12-f0r-26 against Visalia last week with a double, a triple and three home runs. Included were two three-hit games and one five-RBI game. His nine home runs have him third in the league and his .598 SLG is also good for third. Goodman was drafted in the fourth round last year out of Memphis.

LIAM NORRIS – Visalia’s Liam Norris went 5 1/3 innings against Fresno on Sunday with no runs allowed on one hit and one walk while striking out eight. It was the longest outing of Norris’ career. With 36 strikeouts he is tied for sixth in the league and his 1.04 WHIP would be tied for the Cal League if he had another 1 2/3 innings to qualify. Norris was drafted in the third round of the 2020 draft.

 

GRIZZLIES GET 4 IN THE 9TH TO STUN RAWHIDE

The Fresno Grizzlies pulled off some 9th-inning heroics in Visalia Friday night to come back from two runs down for a 6-4 win. Two-out, ninth-inning heroics to be exact. Juan Guerrero came to the plate with two on and two out, the Rawhide needing one more out to seal the win and even the series.

Guerrero drilled a three-run shot to left field to put the Grizzlies up 5-4 and the visitors tacked on an additional run to make it 6-4, the eventual final score.

GIANTS OUTLAST STORM WITH LATE RUNS, 6-5

The San Jose Giants scored five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to edge the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-5 at Excite Ballpark Thursday night. The Giants rallied back from a 4-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh.

A wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2 before Najee Gaskins singled in a pair of runs to tie the game up at 4-4. After holding Lake Elsinore scoreless in the top of the eighth, Yorlis Rodriguez tripled in a run to break the tie, followed by a sac fly by Dilan Rosario to make it 6-4 San Jose.

RAWHIDE PITCHERS RING UP 18 K’s IN 4-1 WIN

Yaifer Perdomo struck out nine Inland Empire 66ers in 4 2/3 innings on Saturday night, leading the way in an 18-strikeout night for Visalia pitching in a 4-1 win. Oscar Santos doubled and knocked in two runs as the Rawhide snapped a six-game losing streak.

Carlos Meza (W, 3-1) relieved Perdomo and went two innings, allowing the only run on one hit and one walk, while adding five strikeouts. Junior Mieses punched out 3 in 1 1/3 scoreless innings and David Sanchez struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to notch his second save of the season.
