GIANTS OUTLAST STORM WITH LATE RUNS, 6-5

The San Jose Giants scored five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to edge the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-5 at Excite Ballpark Thursday night. The Giants rallied back from a 4-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh.

A wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2 before Najee Gaskins singled in a pair of runs to tie the game up at 4-4. After holding Lake Elsinore scoreless in the top of the eighth, Yorlis Rodriguez tripled in a run to break the tie, followed by a sac fly by Dilan Rosario to make it 6-4 San Jose.

Matthew Acosta hit his fifth homer of the year for Lake Elsinore in the top of the ninth to pull within one run at 6-5 but that was the end of the scoring. It was Acosta’s second home run of the night.

Gaskins was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and hit his first home run of the season.  Rosario was 2-for-3. Hunter Dula (W, 1-2) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed one run on Acosta’s second homer with no walks and three strikeouts.

Acosta was 2-for-5 for the Storm and Justin Farmer was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Jairo Iriarte started and went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts for a no-decision.

The win pulls San Jose (18-12) even with the Fresno Grizzlies for first place in the North division.

San Jose has won two of the first three games of the series with game four on Friday night at 6:30PM.
