GRIZZLIES BLAST PORTS WITH 6 HRs, 22 RUNS, 20 HITS

The Fresno Grizzlies (1-3) got their first win of the second half with a loud 22-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark. The first-half North division champions belted out 20 hits including five doubles, a triple and six home runs.

Zach Kokoska was 4-for-6 with a triple and a homer (7). Warming Bernabel had two home runs (7, 8) and drove in five runs. Yanquiel Fernandez had three hits, including his 7th homer, and three walks and scored four times. Juan Guerrero drove in four runs.

Cal League home run leader Hunter Goodman launched his 19th of the year.

With all that offense, the Grizzlies got strong pitching as well.  Jarrod Cande (W, 3-1), went five innings and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Cullen Kafka pitched three scoreless innings in relief with three hits, one walk and four Ks. Bryce McGowan tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

It was a 4-2 game after three innings but Fresno stretched it out with multi-run innings in four of the next five frames. Holding a 14-2 lead going to the eighth, the Grizzlies batted around for eight more runs.

Game two of the six-game series goes Wednesday night at 7:05PM.
