MODESTO STAYS UNBEATEN IN 2ND HALF, 3-1 OVER SAN JOSE

The Modesto Nuts got home runs from Walking Cabrera (2) and David Sheaffer (1) and five pitchers held the San Jose Giants to one run on six hits in a 3-1 win at Excite Ballpark. At 5-0, Modesto is the only undefeated team in the second half and has at two-game lead on San Jose (3-2) in the North division.

Edwin Arroyo went 1-for-3 with two walks for the Nuts and is batting .320, second in the Cal League. The 18-year old leads the league in hits with 87.

Blake Townsend (W, 1-0) was the first pitcher out of the bullpen, inheriting a 1-1 game in the third inning. The 21-year old Australian threw two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit with no walks and one strikeout to earn the win.

Reigning Cal League Pitcher of the Week Nick Sinacola (L, 4-5) went four innings for San Jose and gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts to take the tough-luck loss. Hunter Dula finished the game for the Giants with 2 2/3 IP and allowed no runs or hits with one walk and three Ks.

Modesto has won the first two games of the six-game series with game three going Thursday night at 6:30PM.

SAN JOSE WINS IN 10, CUTS LEAD TO 5

The San Jose Giants came back from down 4-0 and took a 5-4 lead on the Fresno Grizzlies, ultimately winning in 10 innings, 6-5 on Thursday night. Garrett Frechette singled in the installed runner for the win as San Jose beat first-place Fresno for the second night in a row at Excite Ballpark.

The Giants (34-26) trail the Grizzlies (39-21) by five games with six to play in the first half.

GIANTS OUTLAST STORM WITH LATE RUNS, 6-5

The San Jose Giants scored five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to edge the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-5 at Excite Ballpark Thursday night. The Giants rallied back from a 4-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh.

A wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2 before Najee Gaskins singled in a pair of runs to tie the game up at 4-4. After holding Lake Elsinore scoreless in the top of the eighth, Yorlis Rodriguez tripled in a run to break the tie, followed by a sac fly by Dilan Rosario to make it 6-4 San Jose.
