MODESTO TOPS STOCKTON FOR 8TH STRAIGHT WIN

The Modesto Nuts made it eight straight wins on Saturday night with a 10-7 win over Stockton. CF Colin Davis was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs while 2B Cesar Izturis Jr. was 3-for-4 with two doubles. RF Spencer Packard was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Modesto scored nine runs over the first four innings off of Stockton starter RHP Angello Infante. RHP Sam Carlson (W, 5-3) started for the Nuts and went five innings, allowing three runs (2ER) on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.

INLAND EMPIRE TOPS LAKE ELSINORE WITH 4-RUN INNING

The Inland Empire 66ers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but came back with four runs in the third and won as starter Julio Goff and two relievers held down the Storm the rest of the way for a 4-1 win. RBI singles from Carson Matthews and Kyren Paris gave IE the lead that they would never relinquish.

Lake Elsinore’s Euribiel Angeles led off the game with a double and came around to score on a single by Jarryd Dale. That would be all that the Storm would get off of Goff, who  went 5 IP and allowed six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

In the fourth, an HBP and a walk set up Matthews’ RBI single that tied the game  at 1-1. After a D’Shawn Knowles single, Paris followed with a 2-RBI single to make it 3-1, 66ers. Knowles came in on a groundout by Braxton Martinez to make it 4-1.

The 66ers got two shutout innings apiece from RHP Brandon Dufault and RHP Ryan Costeiu. Neither allowed a hit and both hurlers walked one while striking out two. Goff (5-5) earned the win while Costeiu got his first save.

RAWHIDE HANG ON FOR 11-10 WIN OVER STORM

The Visalia Rawhide put six runs on the board in the second inning Saturday night to get out to a big lead, then held on for an 11-10 win over the Storm at Lake Elsinore. 1B Elian Miranda went 2-for-5 and belted his ninth home run to lead the offense as the Rawhide won for the third time in four games.

The six-run inning saw Visalia draw six walks along with two singles and a Miranda double. Lake Elsinore starter Jairo Iriarte was chased after just 10 batters, having allowed the first six hitters of the second inning to reach base without recording an out.

QUAKES WIN 5TH STRAIGHT

Rancho Cucamonga’s offense lit up the scoreboard early and five pitchers combined to silence Lake Elsinore’s bats as the Quakes posted a 9-1 win on Friday night. It was the fifth straight win for Rancho Cucamonga (30-27)  as they maintained their one-game lead over Inland Empire (29-28) in the South division.

2B Eddys Leonard singled in a run and LF Jonny Deluca hit a 2-run homer, his 12th, as the Quakes got out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. SS Alex De Jesus launched a 3-run shot in the bottom of the second to make it 6-0. It was De Jesus’ 9th homer of the year.

THURSDAY SCORES, UPDATES

The first-place showdown in the North division continued on Thursday with San Jose (37-20) beating Fresno (36-21) and taking a one-game lead. Rancho Cucamonga (29-27) won its fourth straight game to remain one game ahead of Inland Empire (28-28).

VISALIA WINS ON VUKOVICH WALK-OFF

3B A.J. Vukovich broke a 9th-inning tie with an RBI double as the Visalia Rawhide beat the Fresno Grizzlies 6-5 on Friday night. Visalia walked off with a win for the second time in this series which is now even at two games apiece.

Visalia’s offense pounded out 12 hits, led by 1B Ramses Malave who went 3-for-4 with two homers (his 3rd and  4th of the season) and 4 RBIs. Vukovich went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2B Ronny Simon went 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot with 2 runs scored.

STOCKTON WINS IN 10 AT INLAND EMPIRE

Stockton 3B T.J. Schofield-Sam brought home the winning run with a sac fly in the top of the 10th at San Manuel Stadium as the Ports beat the Inland Empire 66ers 5-4 Thursday night. Sam had a pair of RBIs on the night and CF Junior Perez had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense.

FOUR-RUN 9TH LIFTS STORM OVER GIANTS

The Lake Elsinore Storm overcame a three-run deficit in the ninth inning Tuesday night to win 8-7 in the series opener at San Jose. Trailing 7-4, the visitors put four runs on the board to take the lead and reliever Jose Garcia made it stand up as The Storm maintained its half-game lead in the South Division.

Giants C Ricardo Genoves started the scoring with a solo homer in the second inning but Lake Elsinore came back with two runs in the top of the third. The Giants took the lead right back in bottom of the third, 3-2, and a four-run sixth gave the home team a 7-3 advantage. RHP Brooks Crawford came  out of the Giants bullpen and the Storm pushed across an eighth-inning run on a Matthew Acosta RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-4.

Lake Elsinore got to reliever Justin Crump in the ninth to take the 8-7 lead. 1B Jack Stronach, C Brandon Valenzuela and 2B Euribiel Angeles all knocked in runs and Garcia (W, 1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win. Crump only got one out and allowed four runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. RHP Austin Reich came in with a one-run lead but gave up the two-RBI single to Angeles.

Giants 2B Brett Auerbach went 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot with a double and two RBIs.

STORM GO TO 4-0, QUAKES vs. 66ERS POSTPONED

The Lake Elsinore Storm stayed perfect in Low-A West play with a dramatic 9-8 win in extra innings in Visalia Friday night while the league also saw its first postponement for covid-related reasons.

The game between the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Inland Empire 66ers was postponed shortly before the scheduled first pitch with the 66ers ultimately posting this message on it’s official Twitter account:

Tonight’s scheduled game between the Inland Empire 66ers and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at San Manuel Stadium has been postponed to allow for continued testing and contract tracing involving members of the 66ers organization. MLB and the 66ers will provide further updates as they become available.

No info on tonight’s scheduled game is available at this time.

The Lake Elsinore Storm became the league’s only 4-0 team by winning another back-and-forth battle with the Visalia Rawhide. Friday night’s win saw CF Robert Hassell III knock in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th with a leadoff triple, driving in the installed runner from second base. Euribiel Angeles brought Hassell III home moments later with a sac fly to provide the winning margin as the Rawhide struck for one run in the bottom of the 10th, but no more.

RHP Jose Geraldo (1-0) went the final 2 2/3 innings for Lake Elsinore, giving up the lead in the bottom of the eighth, but pitching well to close it out and get his first win of the season.

The Rawhide got five strong innings from RHP Brandon Pfaadt who allowed just one hit, a Brandon Valenzuela homerun, while striking out seven with no walks. Pfaadt threw 66 pitches, 49 strikes. 3B A.J. Vukovich (2) and DH Ronny Simon (2) both homered for Visalia.

Four Modesto pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts and 1B Robert Perez drove home the eventual winning run with a two-out single in the eighth inning as Modesto won it’s third straight game, 2-1 over Stockton. RHP Taylor Dollard made his professional debut and went four shutout innings allowing  just two hits and no walks while striking out 10. Dollard struck out eight straight Ports batters in one stretch.

Leon Hunter (1-0) went an inning and a third for the win while Garret Acton (0-1) took the loss for Stockton. Nolan Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save.

Stockton’s Tyler Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with a double while walking twice. Soderstrom is the Oakland A’s top prospect per MLB Pipeline.

The Giants got four first-inning runs and raced out to a 7-0 lead after four innings while LHP Nick Swiney dazzled in his pro debut as San Jose notched its first win of the season. Luis Matos and Harrison Freed had three hits apiece and Armani Smith had a triple and four RBI for the Giants.

Swiney threw four shutout innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out six. RHP Justin Crump (1-0)  went 1 1/3 scoreless in relief to earn his first win. Crump didn’t allow a hit and struck out four batters while issuing two walks.

The Grizzlies got a pair of singles from leadoff man Isaac Collins while Bladimir Restituyo drove in two runs.
