GIANTS SCORE 10 ON FRESNO, TOSS 2-HITTER

The San Jose Giants and Fresno Grizzlies will be seeing quite a lot of each other this week and next, and Tuesday night’s matchup was a dominant 10-0 win for the visiting Giants. Starter Kyle Harrison (W, 4-3) allowed two hits and three walks over five shutout innings and leadoff man Najee Gaskins had three hits and scored two runs in the rout.

Scoreless after three innings, the Giants got five runs (2ER) off of Fresno starter Anderson Amarista, who made a throwing error to complicate matters for himself. JImmy Glowenke singled in a pair of runs, part of a 3-for-4 night for the San Jose second baseman.

Luis Matos and Ghordy Santos each had two hits for the Giants.

Three relievers came out of the San Jose bullpen to combine for four hitless innings, striking out six without any walks. Harrison’s eight strikeouts brought his total to 162, second in the league behind teammate Carson Ragsdale (162).

Julio Carreras was 1-for-3 with a walk for Fresno.

The season-ending six-game series continues tonight, followed by the Low-A West championship series between these two teams. Tuesday night’s win pulled San Jose (73-42) to within 1 1/2 game of first-place Fresno (72-38).

All four winning teams scored in double digits on Wednesday. The top of the North division stayed the same while Inland Empire took over first place in the South division.

GRIZZLIES COMEBACK STUNS QUAKES

The Fresno Grizzlies scored eight runs in the last two innings to come all the way back from a 9-2 deficit and stun the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with a walk-off 10-9 win Saturday night. The Grizzlies launched four home runs over those final two innings, capped off by 1B Grant Lavigne‘s game-winner, a 2-run shot to RF.

PORTS OFFENSE BREAKS OUT IN FRESNO

The Stockton Ports got a second-inning grand slam from CF Brayan Buelvas and went on to score 11 runs on 12 hits as they knocked the Fresno Grizzlies out of first place with an 11-6 win Wednesday night. Buelvas added a solo shot later and went 2-for-5 on the night with five RBIs.

The visiting Ports jumped on Fresno starter Anderson Amarista for six runs over 5 IP. Amarista allowed 7 hits and 2 walks with 2 Ks in his first start since joining the Grizzlies from the AZL. RF Junior Perez went 2-for-5 with a double and 3 RBIs. Every Stockton batter got at least one base hit.

LF Lawrence Butler went 1-for-2 with 3 walks for Stockton and also made three spectacular plays in the field. In the second inning with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Butler hauled in a high drive to the fence by Mateo Gil for the second out. The next batter was Julio Carreras who hit one past 3B T.J. Schofield-Sam for an error. Butler picked up the ball in left and gunned down Daniel Montano who was attempting to advance from 1st which prevented Drew Romo from scoring ahead of Montano. Romo went 3-for-3 for Fresno with his third homer of the year and a walk. He also threw out a runner attempting to steal second base. Buelvas’ homers for Stockton were his sixth and seventh of the year.

Stockton is now 14-24, 12 games out of first place in the North division while Fresno drops to 25-13, a game back of San Jose.
