QUAKES WIN 5TH STRAIGHT

Rancho Cucamonga’s offense lit up the scoreboard early and five pitchers combined to silence Lake Elsinore’s bats as the Quakes posted a 9-1 win on Friday night. It was the fifth straight win for Rancho Cucamonga (30-27)  as they maintained their one-game lead over Inland Empire (29-28) in the South division.

2B Eddys Leonard singled in a run and LF Jonny Deluca hit a 2-run homer, his 12th, as the Quakes got out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. SS Alex De Jesus launched a 3-run shot in the bottom of the second to make it 6-0. It was De Jesus’ 9th homer of the year.

THURSDAY SCORES, UPDATES

The first-place showdown in the North division continued on Thursday with San Jose (37-20) beating Fresno (36-21) and taking a one-game lead. Rancho Cucamonga (29-27) won its fourth straight game to remain one game ahead of Inland Empire (28-28).

The Grizzlies pulled into a flat-footed tie for first place in the North division and best record in Low-A West at 36-20. Daniel Montano extended his hitting streak to 16 games with his 4th homer  of the year, a 2-run shot. Zac Veen‘s RBI single in the top  of the 10th proved to be the game winner. San Jose’s Jairo Pomares went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run.

GRIZZLIES TAKE GM1 OF SHOWDOWN WITH GIANTS

The Fresno Grizzlies got a five-run fifth inning to derail San Jose starter Kyle Harrison‘s outing and went on to a 6-3 victory over the Giants at Excite Ballpark Tuesday night. The top two teams in Low-A West are now separated by a game with the Giants on top and the Grizzlies on the rise.

San Jose got out of the gate first with a two-run homer in the first inning  by RF Jairo Pomares. Harrison kept the Grizzlies off the board for the first four innings before the visitors put up a five-spot in the fifth.

QUAKES WIN OPENER AT FRESNO

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes jumped out on top with a three-run homer from DH Alex De Jesus in the first inning Tuesday night and went on to beat the Grizzlies in Fresno by a score of 5-1. RHP Jimmy Lewis went  2 2/3 scoreless innings and RHP Hyun-il Choi (W, 4-3) came on to cover 5 1/3 innings with only 1 ER as the Quakes held the Grizzlies to just five hits.

PORTS OFFENSE BREAKS OUT IN FRESNO

The Stockton Ports got a second-inning grand slam from CF Brayan Buelvas and went on to score 11 runs on 12 hits as they knocked the Fresno Grizzlies out of first place with an 11-6 win Wednesday night. Buelvas added a solo shot later and went 2-for-5 on the night with five RBIs.

The visiting Ports jumped on Fresno starter Anderson Amarista for six runs over 5 IP. Amarista allowed 7 hits and 2 walks with 2 Ks in his first start since joining the Grizzlies from the AZL. RF Junior Perez went 2-for-5 with a double and 3 RBIs. Every Stockton batter got at least one base hit.

LF Lawrence Butler went 1-for-2 with 3 walks for Stockton and also made three spectacular plays in the field. In the second inning with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Butler hauled in a high drive to the fence by Mateo Gil for the second out. The next batter was Julio Carreras who hit one past 3B T.J. Schofield-Sam for an error. Butler picked up the ball in left and gunned down Daniel Montano who was attempting to advance from 1st which prevented Drew Romo from scoring ahead of Montano. Romo went 3-for-3 for Fresno with his third homer of the year and a walk. He also threw out a runner attempting to steal second base. Buelvas’ homers for Stockton were his sixth and seventh of the year.

Stockton is now 14-24, 12 games out of first place in the North division while Fresno drops to 25-13, a game back of San Jose.
