All four road teams won on Thursday night. Modesto won for the second night in a row at Fresno to keep its slim playoff hopes alive, but San Jose didn’t help them any with a win at Lake Elsinore. Inland Empire needed 11 innings to beat Stockton and Rancho Cucamonga bounced back with a win over the Rawhide:

QUAKES WIN OPENER AT FRESNO

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes jumped out on top with a three-run homer from DH Alex De Jesus in the first inning Tuesday night and went on to beat the Grizzlies in Fresno by a score of 5-1. RHP Jimmy Lewis went  2 2/3 scoreless innings and RHP Hyun-il Choi (W, 4-3) came on to cover 5 1/3 innings with only 1 ER as the Quakes held the Grizzlies to just five hits.

QUAKES’ LAO, 66ERS’ SMITH EARN WEEKLY HONORS

MiLB.com has honored Rancho Cucamonga 1b and Inland Empire LHP Ryan Smith as Low-A West player and pitcher of the week.

SAURYN LAO – Rancho Cucamonga’s first baseman went  11-for-25 with four doubles, a triple, and a homer against Lake Elsinore last week. Lao drove in four runs and scored seven. He  started the six-game series batting .088/.139/.118,  and finished with a slash line of .237/.308/.407

RYAN SMITH – In his May 21 start vs. Modesto, Smith went 6 shutout innings,  allowing three base hits and one walk against 13 strikeouts. Over 15 innings this season Smith has a WHIP of .085 and has struck out 29 batters with just six walks.
