GRIZZLIES TAKE GM1 OF SHOWDOWN WITH GIANTS

The Fresno Grizzlies got a five-run fifth inning to derail San Jose starter Kyle Harrison‘s outing and went on to a 6-3 victory over the Giants at Excite Ballpark Tuesday night. The top two teams in Low-A West are now separated by a game with the Giants on top and the Grizzlies on the rise.

San Jose got out of the gate first with a two-run homer in the first inning  by RF Jairo Pomares. Harrison kept the Grizzlies off the board for the first four innings before the visitors put up a five-spot in the fifth.

SS Ezequiel Tovar and 1B Grant Lavigne singled in runs to tie it up and C Drew Romo put Fresno up 3-2 with an RBI double. Red-hot LF Daniel Montano singled in two runs to make it 5-2 Grizzlies. Montano went 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

2B Jimmy Glowenke hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to pull the Giants to within 5-3 before Fresno tacked on another run in the seventh with a Mateo Gil sac fly to finish the scoring.

Grizzlies starter Andrew DiPiazza (W, 2-0) went five innings and allowed 3 ER on 7 hits and 3 BBs with 7 Ks for the win. Harrison (L, 1-2) went five innings and allowed five runs (4 ER) on 8 hits and 2 BBs with 9 Ks.

San Jose is now 36-19 while Fresno sits just behind them at  35-20. Five more to go in this series and at that point the season will be at the halfway mark. The  teams with the top two records will play for the Low-A West championship at the end of the season.
