SAN JOSE’S 9-RUN INNING LEADS TO 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

All but one San Jose batter had a multi-hit game on Friday night as the Giants posted a 14-3 win at Modesto. 1b Abdiel Layer went 4-for-6 and C Rodolfo  Bone went 4-for-5 with a HR (1) to lead a 21-hit attack.

The Giants went up big early as they scored nine runs without hitting a home run in the second inning. 15 men came to the plate as San Jose had 10 hits and drew two walks to go up 9-0. Modesto starter Brayan Perez was chased after 1 2/3 having given up 9 earned runs on 12 hits and a walk.

GRIZZLIES AT PORTS POSTPONED, DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY

Statement posted on Stockton Ports website re: Friday night’s postponement:

Tonight’s game has been postponed to allow for additional testing and contract tracing of members of the Fresno Grizzlies organization. We are adhering to Minor League Baseball’s health and safety protocols and will practice caution as we follow the guidance of experts. Further updates will be provided as available.

Fans with tickets from tonight’s game will be issued a voucher good for any other game during the 2021 season.

Tonight’s game will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow, July 17, 2021, featuring two 7 inning games starting at 6:05 p.m. Gates open at 4:50 p.m.

Tickets for tomorrow’s doubleheader will be valid for both games.

THURSDAY SCORES

All four winning teams scored in double digits on Wednesday. The top of the North division stayed the same while Inland Empire took over first place in the South division.

WEDNESDAY SCORES

Big innings and blowouts in Low-A West action on Wednesday night. Inland Empire had an 11-run inning and San Jose had an 8-run inning. Three of the winning teams scored in double-digits and only Fresno had to squeak by with a 5-0, 1-hit shutout win.

Edwin Yon  of the 66ers had the box score line of the night, going 4-for-5 with 2 HRs (7) and 9 RBIs. His second homer was a grand slam. In July, Yon is hitting .406/.513/1.063.

DELUCA, WEATHERLY NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Rancho Cucamonga OF Jonny Deluca and Fresno LHP Sam Weatherly were named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for July 5-11.

JONNY DELUCA – Last week against Lake Elsinore, Deluca went 9-for-24 with 4 homers and six runs scored. On Thursday night he went  3-for-5 with two home runs and 4 RBIs. For the month of July Deluca is batting .314/.429/.743 and he is second in Low-A West with 12 HRs.

SAM WEATHERLY – On Saturday against San Jose, Weatherly went 6 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts. On the season, Weatherly ranks 4th in the Low-A West in strikeouts (75), 5th in innings pitched (53 2/3) and 9th in WHIP (1.34).

San Jose got 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings but Eddy Diaz doubled in 2 runs in the top of the 10th and LHP Tanner Propst made it stand up. The Grizzlies won 5 of the 6 games to take a 2-game lead in the North with the best record in the Low-A West, 39-21.

Sam Weatherly and three relievers shutout the Giants on 4 hits and 4 BBs. Weatherly went 6IP, 2H, 1BB, 7K, 73 pitches, 52 strikes. SS Ezequiel Tovar hit his 9th HR, 1B Colin Simpson homered for the third time in five games. Fresno takes over first place in the North division at 38-21.

MARTE POWERS MODESTO TO 8-5 WIN

SS Noelvi Marte went 3-for-5, including his 11th homer of the season, as Modesto got back in the win column, downing Stockton 8-5 Saturday night at John Thurman Field. The Seattle Mariners’ #5 prospect led a 13-hit attack that got out of the gates fast with a 3-run first inning.

The Nuts sent seven men to the plate in the bottom of the first and cashed in three runs on an Alberto Rodriguez groundout and a two-run single by Trent Tinglestad. Modesto tacked on another run in the fourth on an error by Stockton SS Robert Puason.
