BROWN’S 4 HITS, 6TH HOMER LEAD 7-3 SAN JOSE WIN

San Jose’s Vaun Brown racked up four of the Giants’ 12 hits, including his sixth home run of the season, in a 7-3 win over the Stockton Ports on Sunday. Aeverson Arteaga belted his fourth home run and Victor Bericoto added a pair of doubles and three RBIs as the Giants wrapped up a series win at Stockton.

Will Bednar went the first three innings for San Jose, allowing a run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Seth Lonsway took over and pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Lonsway got the win and, at 4-0, took over the California League lead in that department. Mat Olsen went 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three hits, no walks and four strikeouts to earn his second save.

Junior Perez and Danny Bautista had two hits apiece for Stockton and each drove in a run. Blake Beers went six innings for the Ports and allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

San Jose won four of the six games in Stockton. The Giants head home to play Lake Elsinore next while the Ports travel to Rancho Cucamonga.

RAWHIDE PITCHERS RING UP 18 K’s IN 4-1 WIN

Yaifer Perdomo struck out nine Inland Empire 66ers in 4 2/3 innings on Saturday night, leading the way in an 18-strikeout night for Visalia pitching in a 4-1 win. Oscar Santos doubled and knocked in two runs as the Rawhide snapped a six-game losing streak.

Carlos Meza (W, 3-1) relieved Perdomo and went two innings, allowing the only run on one hit and one walk, while adding five strikeouts. Junior Mieses punched out 3 in 1 1/3 scoreless innings and David Sanchez struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to notch his second save of the season.

QUAKES BEAT STORM WITH 1-HITTER

Jerming Rosario went five perfect innings for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night and Alex De Jesus hit his fourth home run of the season in a 4-0 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. Rosario (W, 1-2) combined with Octavio Becerra and Joan Valdez to throw a one-hit shutout.

Rosario allowed no hits or walks while striking out six and threw 59 pitches of which 42 were strikes. Becerra allowed the only hit, a seventh-inning double to Marcos Castanon, while walking one and striking out two over two innings. Valdez covered the final two innings with a walk and a strikeout while throwing 25 pitches, 14 for strikes.

SAN JOSE TOPS STOCKTON, MOVES INTO FIRST PLACE TIE

Victor Bericoto had three hits, including his third home run of the season, to lead a 13-hit attack for the San Jose Giants in an 8-5 victory over Stockton on Thursday night. His seventh-inning blast was the opening shot of a three-homer inning that put the Giants up for good.

Alexander Suarez followed with a two-run shot later in the inning, his second of the season. Rayner Santana finished off the four-run rally with his second home run of the season. The #8 and #9 hitters in the San Jose order combined to go 4-for-9 with four RBIs.

KNOWLES GOES 3-FOR-5, WALKS IT OFF FOR 66ERS

D’Shawn Knowles went 3-for-5 with a triple and a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Inland Empire 66ers beat the Visalia Rawhide 4-3 on Wednesday night. Edgar Quero had two hits, including an RBI double, and knocked in a run for the 66ers.

The Rawhide took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning before Inland Empire put three on the board in the third inning behind Quero’s RBI double and an RBI single from Knowles.

PORTS BEAT GIANTS ON PUASON WALK-OFF DOUBLE

Stockton shortstop Robert Puason lifted a double to right-center field that scored the installed runner from second base with the winning run in a 9-8, 10-inning win over San Jose Tuesday. The Ports trailed 7-2 after five innings before scoring in each frame the rest of the way.

Puason went 2-for-5 and has now hit in five straight games, lifting his batting average from .196 to .239.

Kevin Richards had a huge day at the plate for Stockton, going 4-for-5 with two home runs (2, 3).

STORM WALK OFF WITH 3-2 WIN OVER 66ERS

The Lake Elsinore Storm edged the Inland Empire 66ers with a walk-off single by Cole Cummings for a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon. Jesus Gonzalez went five innings for the Storm and allowed one run on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Alan Mundo (W, 2-0) blanked the 66ers for the final two innings to earn the win.

Carlos Luis hit his first home run of the season for Lake Elsinore. James Wood was 1-for-2 with three walks. Cummings and Lucas Dunn had two hits apiece.

D’Shawn Knowles was 2-for-4 for Inland Empire and Carson Matthews hit his first homer of the year.

Jose Salvador went the first four innings for the 66ers and allowed one earned run on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

The Storm won five of the six games in the series and have the best record in the California League at 15-6, good for a two-game lead on Rancho Cucamonga (13-8) in the South division.

QUAKES PUT 21 RUNS UP IN ROUTE

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes put up 21 runs with the help of 18 walks issued by Visalia pitchers on Saturday night in a 21-6 win over the Rawhide. Diego Cartaya went 4-for-4 with two home runs (3, 4) and six RBIs to lead Rancho Cucamonga’s 10-hit attack.

The Quakes chased Rawhide starter Yaifer Perdomo after just 2/3 of an inning, putting up three runs in the first behind Cartaya’s first homer. Visalia came right back with three runs in the top of the second, powered by a 2-RBI double by Channy Ortiz. Rancho starter Jerming Rosario was pulled after 1 1/3 IP.

RAWHIDE HANG ON FOR 7-5 WIN AT RANCHO

The Visalia Rawhide got back in the win column with a 7-5 victory over the Quakes at Rancho Cucamonga Friday night. Jordan Lawler belted his fifth homer of the season and Deyvison De Los Santos hit his fourth to lead an 11-hit attack.

Visalia starter Peniel Otano went the first four innings and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Listher Sosa (W, 1-1) came on in the fifth inning with a 4-1 lead and threw two scoreless innings, picking up his first win of the season. The 20-year old from the Dominican Republic walked two and struck out one with out allowing a hit.

MODESTO BLANKS SAN JOSE 5-0

Four Modesto pitchers combined to shut out the San Jose Giants on Thursday night as the Nuts won 5-0. Harry Ford went 2-for-4 with two walks and a double to lead the 7-hit Modesto attack.

Nuts starter Jimmy Kingsbury threw four innings and allowed one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Tyler Driver (W, 1-0) followed with two clean innings, no hits or walks with four strikeouts. Kelvin Nunez did nearly the same, going two shutout innings with one hit allowed, no walks and four Ks. Finally, Andrew Moore handled the ninth inning with one hit, no walks and three strikeouts.
