EARLY OFFENSE DRIVES MODESTO WIN OVER INLAND EMPIRE

Inland Empire @ Modesto Gm 3

Modesto’s win streak reached 10 games with a 5-2 victory over Inland Empire on Thursday night at John Thurman Field. Shaddon Peavyhouse (W, 9-5) pitched six innings out of the bullpen and gave up one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. RJ Schreck had three hits and an RBI for the Nuts.

The 66ers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Jadiel Sanchez RBI single. Modesto evened it up in the second inning on a wild pitch, and then Schreck doubled in a run to make it 2-1.

Inland Empire tied it up again in the third when Cole Fontenelle stroked an RBI double. But Modesto came back with one in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to make it 5-2. Peavyhouse and Natanael Garabitos (S, 7) kept Inland Empire quiet the rest of the way.

The nuts (36-21) stayed two games back of Fresno in the North division. Game four of the six-game series with Inland Empire is Friday at 7:05 pm.
