BOWEN’S STRONG START, RODDEN’S OFFENSE LEAD NUTS TO 9TH STRAIGHT WIN

Inland Empire @ Modest Gm 2

Darren Bowen shutout the Inland Empire 66ers over six innings and Brock Rodden scored one run and drove in another as the Modesto Nuts posted a 3-2 win on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field. Their win streak at nine, Modesto (35-21) remained two games back of Fresno in the North division.

Bowen (W, 3-2) allowed one run on one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts. The 22-year old right-hander threw 89 pitches, 62 for strikes.

Rodden was 2-for-4 and came in to score Modesto’s first run in the fifth inning on an error, erasing a 1-0 deficit. In the seventh inning, Rodden singled in what would prove to be the tying run.

Bowen and three relievers held the 66ers to just four hits and two walks while striking out 13. Juan Burgos (S, 6) had an adventurous ninth inning, giving up two hits and a walk, but didn’t allow a run to preserve the win.

Game three is Thursday at 7:05PM.
