NUTS FINISH OFF VISALIA SERIES WINNING FIVE OF SIX

Walking Cabrera had four hits and Tyler Cleveland went six innings to earn his 10th win of the season as Modesto beat Visalia 7-5 on Sunday. The Nuts took five of the six games in the series.

Michael Arroyo tripled in a run in the third inning to start the scoring. Visalia took the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Gavin Logan.

Modesto took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as they put up five runs, capped off by Miguel Perez‘ inside-the-park three run homer. Visalia struck for three runs in the seventh to make it a one-run game at 6-5 but would get no closer.

NUTS STAY HOT WITH 8-4 WIN OVER VISALIA

The Modesto Nuts jumped out ahead with a five-run second inning and went on to an 8-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Friday night. Jared Sundstrom homered for the second straight night to give the Nuts a 2-1 lead and Marcelo Perez pitched six one-hit innings to lead the Nuts to their fifth win in their last six games.

The Nuts have taken four of the first five games of the six-game series at John Thurman Field.

SUNDSTROM SLAM LIFTS MODESTO OVER VISALIA

Jared Sundstrom capped off a six-run rally with a grand slam home run that proved to be the difference in Modesto’s 7-3 win over Visalia on Friday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts came back from 3-1 down to win for the third time in four games vs. the Rawhide.

Michael Morales (W, 5-4) gave up one earned run over five innings but left the game trailing. The right-hander allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Two unearned runs had the Nuts trailing 3-1 going to the bottom of the fifth when the six-run rally made a winner of Morales.

RAWHIDE BREAK THROUGH LATE TO WIN PITCHER’S DUEL

Gavin Conticello broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Visalia Rawhide to a 3-1 win over the Modesto Nuts on Thursday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts lead the six-game series two games to one.

Modesto scored a run in the bottom of the second and carried a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning. Visalia tied it up with an RBI single by Danyer Sanabria.

8-RUN INNING LIFTS MODESTO OVER VISALIA

The Modesto Nuts scored eight times in the fifth inning and pulled away from Visalia in game two of their six-game series at John Thurman Field Wednesday night, winning 15-2. Gabe Moncada belted his 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot, and three different Nuts players had two-hits apiece.

Miguel Perez doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for Modesto. Tatem Levins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

CLEVELAND POSTS LEAGUE-LEADING 9TH WIN AS MODESTO TOPS VISALIA

Tyler Cleveland went 7 2/3 innings and allowed just one run as the Modesto Nuts beat the Visalia Rawhide 3-1 on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. It was Cleveland’s longest outing of the season and he leads the Cal League with nine wins.

Modesto broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when they rallied for three runs. Gabe Moncada doubled in a run to start the scoring. Freuddy Batista and Milkar Perez followed with RBI singles to make it 3-0.

JOSH HOOD, JOEL HURTADO NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITHER OF THE WEEK

Modesto SS Josh Hood went 12-for-23 with two home runs in six games against the Fresno Grizzlies last week to earn Player Of The Week honors. The 2022 sixth-round draft pick had five straight multi-hit games, starting with a three-hit night on Tuesday. For the month of July, Hood is batting .304/.385/.449.

Inland Empire RHP Joel Hurtado was named Cal League Pitcher Of The Week for his six shutout innings against Visalia on Tuesday night. Hurtado (4-2) gave up two hits and one walk with six strikeouts as the 66ers cruised to a 12-1 win over the Rawhide. The six-inning, 75-pitch outing was the longest of the season for the 22-yeaar old.

GIANTS TAKE 5 OF 6 FROM PORTS

Stockton @ San Jose Gm 6

The San Jose Giants pulled away from the Stockton Ports with a seven-run seventh inning and won the series finale 12-3 at Excite Ballpark on Sunday. P.J. Hilson and Turner Hill each had four hits to lead the Giants’ 17-hit attack.

San Jose (11-13) won five of the six games in the series.

The Giants scored in each of the first four innings to build a 4-0 lead. The Ports cut it to 4-2 going to the bottom of the fifth but San Jose came back with eight straight runs to make it 12-2 going to the late innings.

GIANT CLINCH SERIES WIN

Deja vu at Excite Ballpark on Saturday night as the San Jose Giants won a 3-2 game over the Stockton Ports with a tie-breaking single in the middle innings and five shutout innings by the bullpen. Just like Friday night, the tight contest featured shutdown innings from both bullpens with San Jose coming out on top.

Alexander Suarez‘ three-hit night featured the game-winner, a single to left in the fifth inning that gave the Giants a 3-2 lead. After starter Mauricio Estrella held the Ports to two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over the first four innings, Jorge Garcia (W, 1-0) came on for three hitless innings, allowing two walks and striking out two. Luis Moreno (S, 2) finished it off with two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

GIANTS EDGE PORTS ON ROSARIO’S RBI KNOCK

Dilan Rosario broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the 4th inning that proved to be the game-winner as San Jose beat Stockton 3-2 on Friday night at Excite Ballpark. Andrew Kachel went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead the Giants offense and the bullpen held Stockton scoreless over the last five innings.

San Jose took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Kachel’s 5th home run of the season. The Ports tied it up in the fourth with a two-RBI single from Elvis Rijo. Rosario went 3-for-4 on the night, including his game-deciding hit in the bottom of the fourth.
