RAWHIDE BREAK THROUGH LATE TO WIN PITCHER’S DUEL

Gavin Conticello broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Visalia Rawhide to a 3-1 win over the Modesto Nuts on Thursday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts lead the six-game series two games to one.

Modesto scored a run in the bottom of the second and carried a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning. Visalia tied it up with an RBI single by Danyer Sanabria.

Visalia’s Yoscar Pimentel went five innings with just one run allowed and gave up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Modesto’s Shaddon Peavyhouse was even better, throwing six shutout innings with four hits, one walk and six strikeouts.

Conticello’s blast made a winner of Armando Vasquez (W, 2-1), who went two shutout innings.

Johan Benitez had three hits to lead Visalia. Ben Williamson had two hits and drove in Modesto’s only run.

Visalia is 11-16 and sits six games behind first-place Inland Empire in the South division. Modesto (12-15) is eight games out in the North.

Game four is Friday at 7:05PM.
