Modesto @ Fresno Gm 5
After losing for the first time in 17 games the night before, the Modesto Nuts got right to it with a seven-run first inning and rolled to a 17-2 win over the Grizzlies in Fresno on Saturday night. The victory clinched the North division second half title and a spot in the California League playoffs starting Tuesday night.
The seven-run inning wasn’t the biggest inning of the game for Modesto, either. They batted around for nine runs in the seventh inning, which started with an already-commanding 8-1 lead.
Visalia @ Modesto Gm 5
The Modesto Nuts jumped out ahead with a five-run second inning and went on to an 8-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Friday night. Jared Sundstrom homered for the second straight night to give the Nuts a 2-1 lead and Marcelo Perez pitched six one-hit innings to lead the Nuts to their fifth win in their last six games.
The Nuts have taken four of the first five games of the six-game series at John Thurman Field.
Visalia @ Modesto Gm 4
Jared Sundstrom capped off a six-run rally with a grand slam home run that proved to be the difference in Modesto’s 7-3 win over Visalia on Friday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts came back from 3-1 down to win for the third time in four games vs. the Rawhide.
Michael Morales (W, 5-4) gave up one earned run over five innings but left the game trailing. The right-hander allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Two unearned runs had the Nuts trailing 3-1 going to the bottom of the fifth when the six-run rally made a winner of Morales.
