SUNDSTROM SLAM LIFTS MODESTO OVER VISALIA

Jared Sundstrom capped off a six-run rally with a grand slam home run that proved to be the difference in Modesto’s 7-3 win over Visalia on Friday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts came back from 3-1 down to win for the third time in four games vs. the Rawhide.

Michael Morales (W, 5-4) gave up one earned run over five innings but left the game trailing. The right-hander allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Two unearned runs had the Nuts trailing 3-1 going to the bottom of the fifth when the six-run rally made a winner of Morales.

NUTS BREAK OPEN CLOSE GAME WITH LATE RALLIES

The Modesto Nuts scored seven runs over their final two at-bats to pull away from the Stockton Ports for a 10-2 victory on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh the home team took advantage of two bases-loaded walks and an error to put up five runs to go up 8-2. Two more in the ninth finished off the scoring.

Michael Morales (W, 2-0), went five innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six.

VISALIA SHUTS DOWN MODESTO OFFENS FOR 3-1 WIN

The Visalia Rawhide held the Modesto Nuts to just three hits in a 3-1 win at John Thurman Field on Saturday night. Liam Norris (W, 1-7) had his best outing of the season and picked up his first win while Ivan Melendez hit his first professional home run to lead the visitors.

Norris went five shutout innings and did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out four. Three relivers covered the last four innings and allowed just one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

PORTS WALK OFF WITH 4-RUN NINTH

The Stockton Ports came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 7-4 and rallied for four runs to beat the Modesto Nuts 8-7 on Sunday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Kevin Richards hit two home runs (9, 10), including a game-tying two-run shot in the ninth, as the Ports won for the second night in a row. Nick Brueser walked it off with an RBI single.

Modesto jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead off of Stockton starter Mitch Myers and made it 6-0 with two runs in the third. Gabe Moncada hit a two-run shot in the first inning, his 2nd, and Axel Sanchez did the same in the third inning, launching his fourth of the year.
