MODESTO STAGES COMEBACK FOR GAME ONE WIN

The Modesto Nuts surrendered the lead in the top of the eighth inning, then got four runs in the bottom half to secure a 9-6 win over Fresno on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. With their 13th win in their last 16 games, Modesto moved to within four games of first-place Fresno in the North division.

Brock Rodden went 2-for-5 and tripled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Nuts the lead back. Two more runs followed on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded HBP.

P.J. HILSON, RICARDO YAN NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

P.J. HILSON – San Jose’s OF went 8-for-16 against Fresno last week with a double, a triple and two home runs. The 2018 draft pick drove in sevenĀ  runs and scored six. Hilson has been red-hot in August, batting .447/.463/1.026 with six home runs and 15 RBIs.

 

RICARDO YAN – Visalia’s right-hander went seven innings on Wednesday against Lake Elsinore and allowed one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out nine. It was the second consecutive outing with nine strikeouts for the 20-year old from the Dominican Republic. Yan is second in the Cal League with 105 strikeouts on the season.

QUAKES OUTSLUG 66ERS TO TAKE LAST TWO GAMES

Inland Empire @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 6

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes put up five first-inning runs and kept pounding away for a 12-8 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday at LoanMart Field. Rayne Doncon capped the rally with a two-run home run, his 13th of the season, and the Quakes salvaged the last two games of the six-game series.

Thayron Liranzo hit his Cal League-leading 19th homer in the fifth inning and had three hits with three runs scored.

RIOS’ 3-RUN SHOT, URENA’S ARM LIFT 66ERS

Alberto Rios blasted a three-run home run in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference as Inland Empire dropped Rancho Cucamonga 5-2 on Friday night at LoanMart Field. The visiting 66ers won for the fourth straight time in the series while the Quakes have now lost nine of their last 10.

Walbert Urena (W, 3-4) shut Rancho Cucamonga down for seven innings, giving up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. The 19-year old Dominican threw 70 pitches, 49 for strikes.

66ERS TAKE THIRD STRAIGHT FROM QUAKES

The Inland Empire 66ers got back-to-back homers in the fourth inning and dropped the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 5-3 on Thursday night, making it three straight wins in the six-game series. Alberto Rios hit a two-run shot to break a 1-1 tie and Cam Williams followed with a solo homer, giving the 66ers a lead they would never give up.

Four pitchers held the Quakes to single runs in third, sixth and seventh as they tried to claw their way back, but a sac fly by Williams in the eighth made it 5-3.

GUZMAN’S 4 RBIs LIFT 66ERS OVER QUAKES

Denzer Guzman tripled with the bases loaded and came in to score on an error to give the Inland Empire 66ers the breathing room they needed to beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday at LoanMart Field. Guzman also drew a bases-loaded walk, totalling four RBIs.

The 66ers took a 3-0 lead before Rancho struck for a run on a Jake Gelof RBI single in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1. That was it for the scoring until IE’s four-run seventh inning that pushed the lead 7-1.

66ERS BIG FIRST INNING HOLDS UP

The Inland Empire 66ers jumped on the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for five first-inning runs, then held on against a late surge for a 6-5 win at LoanMart Field on Tuesday night. Nelson Rada had two hits and a walk out of the leadoff spot for Inland Empire.

After the 66ers batted around in the first, Rancho Cucamonga came back with two in the bottom of the second when Dylan Campbell singled in a pair. The visitors plated another run in the sixth to make it 6-2 and that proved to be the deciding run.

MUJICA’S EARLY OFFENSE LIFTS PORTS IN FINALE

The Stockton Ports got out to a fast start on Sunday and took the final game of the series with Visalia by a score of 12-4 at Valley Strong Ballpark. Jose Mujica blasted two home runs and drove in six RBIs for the Ports as they won for the second time in the six games in Visalia.

The Ports came out firing on all cylinders with a five-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run shot from Mujica, his fourth of the season. After Visalia came back with two runs in the bottom of the first, Mujica led a four-run second inning with another three-run shot, his fifth.

RAWHIDE OUTLAST PORTS FOR 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

The Visalia Rawhide stretched their winning streak to four games with an action-packed 9-8 victory over the Stockton Ports on Saturday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Gavin Logan doubled and homered, one of four Rawhide batters with multi-hit games as the club rapped out 14 hits.

The starting pitcher matchup pitted two highly touted prospects but neither saw the end of the third inning and the offenses ran wild from the first inning. Landon Sims started for Visalia and gave up a first-inning run and left after a scoreless second inning having thrown 43 pitches, 24 for strikes.
