RIOS’ 3-RUN SHOT, URENA’S ARM LIFT 66ERS

Inland Empire @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 4

Alberto Rios blasted a three-run home run in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference as Inland Empire dropped Rancho Cucamonga 5-2 on Friday night at LoanMart Field. The visiting 66ers won for the fourth straight time in the series while the Quakes have now lost nine of their last 10.

Walbert Urena (W, 3-4) shut Rancho Cucamonga down for seven innings, giving up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. The 19-year old Dominican threw 70 pitches, 49 for strikes.

Inland Empire got on the board first with two runs in the third inning on a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch. Rios’ second home run of the season put the 66ers up 5-0, and it proved to be crucial when Wilman Diaz launched a two-run shot for Rancho Cucamonga in the bottom of the ninth.

Jared Karros (L, 2-4) started and went four innings for the Quakes, allowing two runs (1 ER) on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

At 25-15, the 66ers are six games up in the South division while Rancho Cucamonga (16-24) is nine games out. Game five of the six-game series is Saturday at 6:30PM.
