66ERS BIG FIRST INNING HOLDS UP

Inland Empire @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 1

The Inland Empire 66ers jumped on the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for five first-inning runs, then held on against a late surge for a 6-5 win at LoanMart Field on Tuesday night. Nelson Rada had two hits and a walk out of the leadoff spot for Inland Empire.

After the 66ers batted around in the first, Rancho Cucamonga came back with two in the bottom of the second when Dylan Campbell singled in a pair. The visitors plated another run in the sixth to make it 6-2 and that proved to be the deciding run.

Rancho rallied for two in the eighth and one in the ninth but came up just short. Max Gieg stuck out the last two hitters to preserve the 6-5 win and earn his first save of the season.

Rada and Jadiel Sanchez each had two hits for Inland Empire.

The 66ers (22-15) stretched their first-place lead in the South divsion to five games over the Quakes (17-20). Game two of the six-game series is Wednesday night at 6:30PM.
