INLAND EMPIRE’S D’SHAWN KNOWLES AND FRESNO’S VICTOR JUAREZ NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Inland Empire OF D’Shawn Knowles and Fresno RHP Victor Juarez have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 16-22.

D’SHAWN KNOWLES – In six games against San Jose last week, Knowles went 11-for-21 with four doubles and a home run. The 21-year old from the Bahamas is third in the Cal League in hits (44), tied for fourth in batting average (.331) and fifth in OBP (.438). He is riding a 7-game hitting streak and has reached base in his last 13 games.

VICTOR JUAREZ – Fresno’s 18-year old right-hander threw six scoreless innings against Rancho Cucamonga, giving up just one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts. Earning his third win, Juarez is now tied for second in the Cal League with 3. He’s also second in WHIP (1.02), third in ERA (2.80) and sixth in IP (35 1/3).

BROWN, ROSARIO NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

San Jose OF Vaun Brown and Rancho Cucamonga RHP Jerming Rosario were named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 2 – 8.

VAUN BROWN – In five games at Stockton last week, Brown was 11-for-23 (.478) with four homeruns. Having homered in his last four games, Brown is now tied for second in the Cal League with six on the season. Brown was picked in the 10th round of the 2021 draft out of Florida Southern.

JERMING ROSARIO – 20-year old Rosario threw five shutout innings on Friday night at Lake Elsinore with no hits or walks while striking out six. The only Storm hitter that reached base was on an HBP. Rosario threw 59 pitches, 42 for strikes.

MERRILL, FLEMING NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Lake Elsinore SS Jackson Merrill and Modesto RHP William Fleming have been named California League Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 18 – 24.

JACKSON MERRILL – The Lake Elsinore SS went 9-for-19 with two doubles, a homerun and two walks last week against Fresno. The 2021 first-round selection (27th overall) is currently second in the league with .393 batting average, fifth in OBP (.452) and ninth in OPS (.970).

WILLIAM FLEMING – Modesto’s 6’6″ right-hander threw six innings of one-hit ball against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday night with eight strikeouts against one walk. Fleming threw 80 pitches, 54 for strikes, while putting zeroes up on the scoreboard.

CLARKE, MYERS NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OF Denzel Clarke and RHP Mitch Myers, both of the Stockton Ports, earned Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for April 11-17.

DENZEL CLARKE – After going hitless in the first two games against Modesto, Clarke went 10-for-19 with three home runs the rest of the series. The Oakland A’s’ #16 prospect is slashing .333/.350/.615 for the young season and is tied for second in the Cal League with 13 hits and 3 homers.

MITCH MYERS – On Wednesday night, Myers threw six scoreless innings against Modesto, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The right-hander out of Pittsburgh left with a 3-0 lead having thrown 74 pitches, 48 for strikes.

RAMOS, RODRIGUEZ NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OF Jose Ramos of Rancho Cucamonga and RHP Randy Rodriguez of San Jose have been named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for September 6 – 12.

JOSE RAMOS – In six games at Inland Empire, Ramos went 11-for-27 with two doubles, a triple, three homers and 10 RBIs and four walks. The 20-year old from Panama joined the Quakes on July 22nd. In September Ramos is slashing .367/.446/.755.

 

RANDY RODRIGUEZ – Over two outings against Stockton, Rodriguez pitched five innings without allowing a run, giving up just one hit and no walks with seven strikeouts. This is the second time that the righty out of the Dominican Republic has been named Pitcher of the Week. On the season, Rodriguez has thrown 58 2/3 innings and struck out 95 batters against 23 walks.

BAILEY, SWANDA NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

San Jose’s Patrick Bailey and Inland Empire’s John Swanda have been named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 23-29.

PATRICK BAILEY – The switch-hitting catcher hit in all six games against Lake Elsinore last week, going 12-for-25 with five doubles and a home run. On Wednesday night he was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a homer in San Jose’s 7-0 win. Bailey was the 13th overall pick in the 2020 draft.

 

JOHN SWANDA – On Wednesday night Swanda threw 6 1/3 innings against the Stockton Ports and allowed just one unearned run on no hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. With his sixth win of the season he is tied for third in Low-A West. He’s third in the league with 97 1/3 IP.

ROSIER, RODRIGUEZ NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Modesto OF Corey Rosier and San Jose RHP Randy Rodriguez have been named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week  for August 16-22

COREY ROSIER – The 2021 12th round draft pick was 10-for-18 in five games against Stockton last week including a 4-for-5 night on Thursday. Rosier walked five times over the week with just two strikeouts. Since joining the Nuts on July 31st, Rosier has batted .370./.471/.593.

 

RANDY RODRIGUEZ – San Jose reliever Randy Rodriguez made two appearances against Rancho Cucamonga last week and pitched a total of six innings without allowing a run. The right-hander allowed one hit and no walks while striking out nine. He got the win on Saturday for his four-inning effort with no runs, hits or walks against six strikeouts.

SIMON, STONE NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Visalia’s Ronny Simon and Rancho Cucamonga’s Gavin Stone have been named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 9 – 15.

RONNY SIMON – In five games against Lake Elsinore last week, Simon was 7-for-19 with two doubles, three home runs and five walks. The 21-year old has slashed .333/.462/.786 in August and his 15 home runs are tied for fourth in the league. On Wednesday, Simon belted two home runs in Visalia’s 7-6 win.

GAVIN STONE – The 22-year old righty threw six dominant innings against Inland Empire on Friday, allowing four hits and no runs or walks with 12 strikeouts. At 101 Ks on the season, Stone is fourth in the league. Over his last five starts (23 2/3IP) Stone has walked one batter with 36 strikeouts.

MARTE, PHILLIPS NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Modesto SS Noelvi Marte and RHP Connor Phillips have been named  Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 2 – 8.

NOELVI MARTE – Marte was 11-for-28 against Stockton with a double, five home runs, 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored. His had a huge night on Tuesday, August 3rd when he went 4-for-5 with three home runs and nine RBIs. With 17 HRs, Marte is now second in Low-A West behind Marco Luciano’s 18, with Luciano up in High-A now.

CONNOR PHILLIPS – Phillips went six innings on Thursday against the Ports and and allowed no runs on two hits and no walks while striking out 12. It was his sixth win of the season, second in Low-A West. Over his last three starts (16 2/3 IP), Phillips has walked two with 22 strikeouts.

BUTLER, BERROA NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Stockton OF Lawrence Butler and San Jose RHP Prelander Berroa have been named Low-A West Player and Pitcher of the Week for July 19-25.

LAWRENCE BUTLER – Against San Jose last week, Butler went 10-for-25 with a double and three home runs. On Wednesday he was 2-for-4 with two homers and six RBIs. Butler’s 13 home runs are tied for fourth in Low-A West.

 

PRELANDER BERROA – On Saturday against Stockton, Berroa went six shutout innings and allowed one hit with no walks and nine strikeouts. In July, Berroa is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA over five starts. In 28 2/3 July innings, he has allowed 18 hits and nine walks with 34 strikeouts.
