FRESNO AND LAKE ELSINORE GO UP 1-0

The Fresno Grizzlies and Lake Elsinore Storm took 1-0 leads in their three game playoff series on Tuesday night:

The Grizzlies scored six first-inning runs and added six more the rest of the way to run away with game one of the Division Series. Jordan Beck went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Braxton Fulford had two doubles and three RBIs.

Fresno used five pitchers, with Cullen Kafka getting the win in relief. Kafka pitched three scoreless innings and gave up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Game two is on Thursday night in Fresno.

The Storm took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning and put the game out of reach with six runs. Griffin Doersching was 3-for-5 with two home runs. Jackson Merrill and Nerwilian Cedeno had two hits each. Five Grizzlies had at least two hits.

Victor Lizarraga went 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine. Will Geerdes threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up no hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Game two is at Lake Elsinore on Thursday night at 7:15.

STORM TOP QUAKES 4-1

Victor Lizarraga went 5 1/3 strong innings and Samuel Zavala clubbed a two-run homer as the Lake Elsinore Storm beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field. Jakob Marsee hit his first home run to lead off the game for the Storm and three relievers shut out the Quakes over 3 2/3 innings.

Lizarraga (W, 8-3) allowed one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Hazahel Quijada finished off the sixth inning by getting two outs with no hits and one walk allowed. Aaron Holiday covered two innings with no runs or hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Manuel Castro nailed down the win with his first save by throwing a scoreless ninth inning despite allowing two hits.

STORM MOVE INTO 1ST-PLACE TIE WITH 2-HITTER

The top four hitters in Lake Elsinore’s batting order all had multi-hit games and Victor Lizarraga won his sixth game of the season as the Storm beat Visalia 10-1 on Saturday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. It was the eighth win in 10 games for Lake Elsinore (20-15) and pulled them into a first-place tie with Inland Empire in the South division.

After two first-inning runs, the Storm added three more in the third with Marcos Castanon blasting a two-run homer, his 15th long ball of the season. Nerwilian Cedeno hit a grand slam (3) in the seventh inning to make it a 9-0 lead. Cedeno was 2-for-5 with five RBIs.

66ERS WIN BEHIND EARLY HOMERS, GOFF’S 9 K’S

The Inland Empire 66ers went came out of the break swinging with two first-inning home runs on their way to a 6-2 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm at San Manuel Stadium Friday night. Alexander Ramirez and David Calabrese went back-to-back to get the scoring started and Julio Goff (W, 6 -7) whiffed nine LE hitters in five innings.

Ramirez hit a two-run shot to put IE up 2-0 with two outs in the first, his seventh home run of the season. Calabrese followed with his fourth of the year to make it 3-0.

LAKE ELSINORE BATS AROUND FOR 13-4 WIN OVER MODESTO

The Lake Elsinore offense was nearly unstoppable in the middle innings as they poured it on for a 13-4 win over the Modesto Nuts at The Diamond on Friday night. The Storm scored at least three runs in four straight innings and put up their 13 runs on 17 hits.

Albert Fabian was a double shy of hitting for the cycle as he went 3-for-5 with a triple, a homer (10) and four RBIs with three runs scored. James Wood and Marcos Castanon also had three hits and Nerwilian Cedeno was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

CASTANON HOMERS TWICE AS STORM MAINTAIN 3-GAME LEAD

The Lake Elsinore Storm pounded out 12 runs on 15 hits in a 12-2 win over Modesto Saturday night to keep their lead in the South division at three games with four to play in the first half. Marcos Castanon homered twice (5, 6) and drove in five runs while five different Storm hitters had at least two hits.

Castanon was one of three Lake Elsinore batters with three hits. Albert Fabian was 3-for-4 with a home run (6) and Nerwilian Cedeno was 3-for-5 with two triples.

EARLY OFFENSE LEADS STORM PAST QUAKES, 12-3

The Lake Elsinore Storm raced out to a 9-0 lead on Wednesday night and cruised to a 12-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at LoanMart Field. Albert Fabian homered twice (4, 5) and drove in five runs. Justin Farmer added a grand slam (6) for the Storm.

Max Ferguson, Nerwilian Cedeno and Fabian batted 1-2-3 in the Storm order and each had two hits. Ferguson led off the game with a triple and Cedeno singled him in to start the scoring. Cedeno came around to score after a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, a passed ball and another throwing error on a ground ball.
