66ERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, BEAT NUTS 10-3

The Inland Empire 66ers (28-27) got up and over the .500 mark on Friday night with a 10-3 win over the Modesto Nuts at San Manuel Stadium. Red-hot Edgar Quero had three hits including a double and his sixth home run of the season to lead the offense. Inland Empire’s 2-5 hitters each had at least two hits.

The 19-year old Quero has a 7-game hitting streak and has had three hits in three of his last five games. Quero was slashing .237/.370/.356 on May 24th and has raised those numbers to .293/.406/.473 in the 13 games since.

GIANTS GET 3 IN 9TH TO BEAT NUTS

The San Jose Giants were trailing 6-4 going to the top of the 9th inning on Wednesday night when they got three runs to stun the Modesto Nuts for a 7-4 win. A walk, a triple and a double tied the game at 6 apiece, then pinch-hitter Grant McCray tripled in the eventual winning run.

Jose Cruz came on to pitch a clean bottom of the ninth with no baserunners and two strikeouts to earn his second save of the season.

RAMIREZ HOMERS IN NUTS 9-1 WIN OVER STOCKTON

Ben Ramirez had three hits, including his third home run of the year, to lead Modesto’s 14-hit attack in a 9-1 win over Stockton Sunday at Banner Island Ballpark. Jordan Jackson (W, 2-3) threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Modesto broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Robert Perez singled in a run to make it 1-0. The Nuts added on with four runs in the fifth inning with an RBI double by Edwin Arroyo, a wild pitch and Ramirez’ two-run blast.

PORTS WIN 5TH STRAIGHT WITH SHUTOUT OF NUTS

The Stockton Ports won their fifth straight game and pulled to within one game of Modesto in the standings with a 5-0 win over the Nuts Thursday night in Stockton. Luke Anderson (W, 1-2) started and went 5 2/3 innings without allowing a run despite issuing seven walks. Kevin Richards was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple to knock in the first run of the game in the third inning.

The Ports improved to 14-22 on the year and are now nine games out of first place in the North division, trailing Modesto (15-21) by a game for third place.

66ERS TOP MODESTO 7-5 IN 10 INNINGS

The Inland Empire 66ers got three runs in the top of the 10th inning at Modesto Tuesday night to beat the Nuts by a score of 7-5. Vojtech Mensik hit a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs and break a 4-4 tie, with a balk later adding another run. The 66ers survived an RBI single from Edwin Arroyo in the bottom of the 10th and locked down the win.

After the extra-inning installed runner was placed on second base, Inland Empire loaded the bases on a walk and a HBP, setting up Mensik’s two-run single.
