STOCKTON OUTLASTS SAN JOSE IN 12

The Stockton Ports gave up three runs in the top of the 12th inning and then walked it off with five in the bottom half to beat the San Jose Giants 12-10 and win four of six games in the series. Brayan Buelvas drilled a pinch-hit three-run homer to end the game on Sunday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark.

The two teams traded runs from the opening frame and after nine innings they were locked up at six apiece. They each posted single runs in the 10th and then had a scoreless 11th before the fireworks resumed in the 12th.

The Ports overcame seven errors in the field and 17 strikeouts at the plate. Four of the 12 runs were unearned.

At 12-27, Stockton is 12 games back of San Jose (24-15) in the North division. The Ports travel to Fresno to start a six-game series with an 11:05 game on Tuesday. The Giants will be at Modesto.

CABRERA DAZZLES AS RAWHIDE BEAT QUAKES

RHP Jose Cabrera threw five scoreless innings and Brett Johnson belted his second home run of the season as the Visalia Rawhide beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8-3 on Friday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Four Rawhide batters had multi-hit games and the pitching staff kept the Quakes off the scoreboard until the ninth inning.

Visalia got single runs in the second and third innings, both on wild pitches.  Johnson launched his solo shot in the seventh inning to make it 3-0 and the Rawhide pushed across another run with a Jose Fernandez RBI single.

NUTS SHUT OUT GRIZZLIES, MONCADA HOMERS

The Modesto Nuts shut out the Fresno Grizzlies on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field with Gabe Moncada homering (6) and driving in three runs in a 5-0 victory. Starter Tyler Cleveland (W, 3-1) went six scoreless innings and gave up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Three relievers pitched a scoreless inning apiece and combined for one walk and seven strikeouts.

Cole Young, the Mariners’ #3 prospect, was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice. The 19-year old 2022 first-round draft pick is eighth in the league with a .421 OBP and has walked 27 times against 26 strikeouts.

#7 Mariners prospect Gabriel Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double.

Modesto (18-17) is four games out of first place in the North division. Fresno (19-16) is three games back of first.

The teams have split the first two games of the six-game series with game three on Thursday night at 7:05PM.

FABIAN HOMERS IN STORM WIN OVER 66ERS

The Lake Elsinore Storm got back in the win column with a 4-2 victory over Inland Empire on Tuesday night at The Diamond. DH Albert Fabian launched his sixth home run of the season and singled in a run to lead the Storm offense.

Three Lake Elsinore pitchers held the 66ers to two runs on six hits with starter Henry Baez (W, 3-0) tossing 5 2/3 innings to get the win. Baez gave up a run on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

THOMAS GAVELLO, CONNOR STAINE NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

San Jose C Thomas Gavello went 7-for-16 with two doubles and three home runs to earn Player of the Week honors. A 13th-round pick in 2022, Gavello drew three walks and scored six runs in five games against Lake Elsinore. With a .478 OBP, Gavello is second in the Cal League and his .314 batting average is good for third.

Fresno’s Connor Staine was named Pitcher of the Week after shutting out Visalia over six innings on Saturday night. The 2022 fifth-round draft pick allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. It was the Clinton, NJ native’s longest outing of the season.

PORTS OUTLAST QUAKES 13-12

The Stockton Ports scored in each of the first five innings to build a 10-4 lead but needed all three runs from a seventh-inning rally to edge the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 13-12 on Sunday at LoanMart Field.

#11 A’s prospect Henry Bolte had four hits, including a double and his first home run of the season, and drove in five runs.

Brayan Buelvas, Oakland’s #23 prospect, went 2-for-4 with a double and two walks and also scored three runs.

EIGHTH-INNING HOMERS LIFT QUAKES

Chris Newell homered to tie the game and Thayron Liranzo followed with what proved to be the game-winner as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes slipped past the Stockton Ports by a 4-3 score on Thursday night at LoanMart Field. Five RC pitchers held the Ports to three unearned runs on three hits.

Rancho Cucamonga (21-9) stretched its lead in the South division to two games over Lake Elsinore (19-11) and has won 14 of its last 17 games.

Newell and Liranzo are now tied with Fresno’s Ryan Ritter for the Cal League lead in home runs.

66ERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, 3-2 WALKOFF OVER NUTS

Kevin Watson Jr. singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Inland Empire 66ers came back from a run down for a walk off win over the Modesto Nuts on Wednesday night. After surrendering a run in the top of the inning to fall behind 2-1, IE rallied for two to get the 3-2 win at San Manuel Stadium.

The game was a tense pitcher’s duel that was scoreless through five innings, before each team struck for a single run in the sixth to make it 1-1. It remained that way until the back-and-forth action in the ninth.

STOCKTON’S BOLTE AND LAKE ELSINORE’S SNELLING NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

HENRY BOLTE – Stockton’s 19-year old OF went 9-for-18 with three doubles and a triple in five games against Fresno last week. After a slow start in April, Bolte is now slashing .289/.386/.833 on the season. He was Oakland’s second-round pick in 2022, the #56 pick overall.

ROBBY SNELLING –  Lake Elsinore’s Snelling improved to 3-0 on the season with with five shutout innings against Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night. The lefty from Reno, NV allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. Over 21 innings on the season, Snelling has walked nine and struck out 26. Opponents are batting .143 against him and his WHIP is 0.90. Snelling was taken by the Padres in the competitive balance round of the 2022 draft, #39 overall.

3-RUN EIGHTH INNING PUSHES RAWHIDE PAST 66ERS

The Visalia Rawhide came back from a run down in the bottom of the eighth with three runs for a 4-2 win over Inland Empire on Saturday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Two walks, two singles and a GIDP brought in the deciding runs as the Rawhide (10-16) got strong outings from four pitchers and made the most of just five base hits.

Starter Ricardo Yan went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Those three hits were surrendered to the first three batters of the game, who went single-double-double to put the 66ers up 2-0. Yan then retired the next 17 batters in a row, but left the game trailing and got a no-decision.
