RHP Jose Cabrera threw five scoreless innings and Brett Johnson belted his second home run of the season as the Visalia Rawhide beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8-3 on Friday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Four Rawhide batters had multi-hit games and the pitching staff kept the Quakes off the scoreboard until the ninth inning.

Visalia got single runs in the second and third innings, both on wild pitches.  Johnson launched his solo shot in the seventh inning to make it 3-0 and the Rawhide pushed across another run with a Jose Fernandez RBI single.

Meanwhile, all was quiet for Rancho as Cabrera (W, 1-3) allowed three hits and a walk over five innings with eight strikeouts, but no runs. Logan Clayton came on for two scoreless to hold the line. Josh Swales pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and the Rawhide came to bat in the bottom of the inning with a 4-0 lead.

With three singles, a double and two walks, Visalia tacked on four more runs for an 8-0 lead. The Quakes racked up three two-out runs to make the final score 8-3.

Cabrera is ninth in the California League with 29 2/3 IP this season and the 20-year old Dominican set season highs with 5IP and 8K’s while the one walk was his least in any outing. Cabrera threw 89 pitches, 55 for strikes.

C Christian Cerda was 1-for-3 with two walks and is fifth in the league in OBP at .432.
