LINARES SPARKS STORM WITH 3-RUN SHOT

Lake Elsinore @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 3

Oswaldo Linares belted a three-run home run to put Lake Elsinore on the board in the fourth inning and erase a 1-0 deficit and the Storm went on to win 6-3 over the Quakes on Thursday night at LoanMart Field. After being held scoreless over the first five innings, Linares’ second home run of the season sparked the offense, which scored six time over the last four innings.

Sam Mongelli put the Quakes on the board in the bottom of the fifth with his first home run of the season, breaking a scoreless tie. Lake Elsinore went up for good on Linares’ blast and the Storm added on with single runs in the eighth and ninth.

QUAKES HOLD OFF STORM

Jared Karros threw six scoreless innings and Luis Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes withstood a late-inning surge to defeat the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-4 on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field. The Quakes have won the first two games of the series and have caught the Storm at 23-27 for second place in the South division.

Karros (W, 3-4) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four in his six innings. The 22-year old right-hander thew 54 pitches, 42 for strikes. Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk and drove in the first run of the game with a second-inning RBI double.

QUAKES WIN BEHIND ROMERO’S ARM AND A SIX-RUN INNING

Lake Elsinore @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 1

Christian Romero threw five shutout innings and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rapped out 14 hits in a 10-1 win over Lake Elsinore Tuesday night at LoanMart Field. The Quakes won for the sixth time in their last 10 games.

Romero (W, 6-2) allowed two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts, throwing 76 pitches, 49 for strikes. In four August starts, Romero has thrown 19 2/3 innings with four walks and 22 strikeouts.

MODESTO JUMPS ON TOP EARLY, SPLITS SERIES WITH FRESNO

Gabe Moncada capped a four-run first inning with his 12th home run of the year, a three-run shot, as the Modesto Nuts got out to an early lead and beat the Fresno Grizzlies 7-2 on Sunday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts and Grizzlies split their six-game series, with Fresno finishing with a five-game lead in the North division.

Moncada went 7-for-19 with two home runs in the series with Fresno, playing in five of the six games.

CARIGG HAS FOUR HITS, THREE TRIPLES IN GRIZZLIES WIN

A night after blasing his first Cal League home run, Cole Carigg tripled three times, scored twice and drove in a run as the Fresno Grizzlies beat the Modesto Nuts 10-6 at John Thurman Field Saturday night. Fresno has won three of the first five games of the six-game series and goes for the series win on Sunday.

After Carigg started the game with his first triple, Dyan Jorge drove him in as Fresno took a quick 1-0 lead. Jorge went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

CARIGG HOMER SPARKS GRIZZLIES RALLY

Cole Carigg hit his first Cal League home run to lead off the eighth inning and the Fresno Grizzlies struck for two more runs to come from behind and beat the Modesto Nuts 6-5 on Friday night. The top two teams in the North division have split the first four games of their six-game series at John Thurman Field.

Luis Mendez opened the scoring with an RBI single that put Fresno up 1-0 in the second inning. Modesto came back with five straight runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Fresno chipped away with single runs in the sixth and seventh to get within two.

OFFENSE, CLEVELAND’S ARM LEAD NUTS OVER GRIZZLIES

The Modesto Nuts continued their attempt to reel in the Fresno Grizzlies with a commanding 18-1 win on Thursday night at John Thurman Field. The second-place Nuts scored 18 runs on 17 hits while drawing eight walks and hitting three home runs. Tyler Cleveland went seven shutout innings to earn his league-leading 12th win.

An eight-run second inning put the Nuts up 9-0 and chased Fresno starter Connor Staine. Modesto put up five more in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh. Fresno didn’t get on the board till posting a single run in the top of the ninth.

GRIZZLIES EXPLODE LATE TO EVEN SERIES WITH MODESTO

The Fresno Grizzlies put up 12 runs over the final four innings and evened up their series with the Modesto Nuts as they posted a 12-3 victory at John Thurman Field on Wednesday night. Michael Prosecky threw five scoreless innings and allowed four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts as he earned his 10th win of the season, second in the Cal League.

The North division showdown was scoreless through five innings, with Prosecky finishing with a league-leading 110 strikeouts. Cole Carigg broke the ice with a sac fly in the sixth to give Fresno a 1-0 lead. Bryant Betancourt made it 2-0 with an RBI single later in the inning.

MODESTO STAGES COMEBACK FOR GAME ONE WIN

The Modesto Nuts surrendered the lead in the top of the eighth inning, then got four runs in the bottom half to secure a 9-6 win over Fresno on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. With their 13th win in their last 16 games, Modesto moved to within four games of first-place Fresno in the North division.

Brock Rodden went 2-for-5 and tripled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Nuts the lead back. Two more runs followed on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded HBP.

P.J. HILSON, RICARDO YAN NAMED CAL LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

P.J. HILSON – San Jose’s OF went 8-for-16 against Fresno last week with a double, a triple and two home runs. The 2018 draft pick drove in sevenĀ  runs and scored six. Hilson has been red-hot in August, batting .447/.463/1.026 with six home runs and 15 RBIs.

 

RICARDO YAN – Visalia’s right-hander went seven innings on Wednesday against Lake Elsinore and allowed one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out nine. It was the second consecutive outing with nine strikeouts for the 20-year old from the Dominican Republic. Yan is second in the Cal League with 105 strikeouts on the season.
