QUAKES WIN BEHIND ROMERO’S ARM AND A SIX-RUN INNING

Lake Elsinore @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 1

Christian Romero threw five shutout innings and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rapped out 14 hits in a 10-1 win over Lake Elsinore Tuesday night at LoanMart Field. The Quakes won for the sixth time in their last 10 games.

Romero (W, 6-2) allowed two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts, throwing 76 pitches, 49 for strikes. In four August starts, Romero has thrown 19 2/3 innings with four walks and 22 strikeouts.

Jesus Galiz put the Quakes up 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single. Rayne Doncon made it 2-0 in the fourth inning with his 14th homer of the year. That was all Rancho Cucamonga would need, but they batted around for six runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

The Storm got on the board in the eighth inning with an unearned run before Rancho Cucamonga came back with two more in the bottom of the inning.

The Quakes (22-27) are six games out of first place in the South division. Lake Elsinore (23-26) is five games out. Game two is Wednesday at 6:30PM.
