PUERTA KNOCKS IN GAME-WINNERS IN 11TH, QUAKES BEAT 66ERS

Jorge Puerta singled in two runs in the top of the 11th to provide the winning margin in Rancho Cucamonga’s 8-6 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium. A flurry of late scoring came out in favor of the Quakes as they now can go for a series split on Sunday.

Rancho took a 5-3 lead into eighth inning when Nelson Rada hit a two-out single with the bases loaded that saw the tying runs score before the third out was made on the bases.

66ERS RALLY PAST QUAKES

A four-run eighth inning pushed the Inland Empire 66ers past the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a 5-4 win on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium. Coming up to bat with a 4-1 deficit, the 66ers (7-5) rallied for the win and took sole possession of first place in the South division.

The Quakes (6-6) did all of their scoring in a four-run second inning that included Jesus Galiz‘ fourth home run of the season. Starter Peter Heubeck kept the 66ers quiet, going five innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA EVENS SERIES WITH 2-0 SHUTOUT OF 66ERS

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes forced their way into a three-way tie for first place with a 2-0 win over Inland Empire on Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium. Three pitchers held the 66ers to just three hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts and a two-run fifth-inning rally held up as the Quakes improved to 6-5 on the season.

Christian Romero started and went four innings, allowing the three hits and one walk against four strikeouts. Joel Ibarra (W, 5-1) came on for three scoreless innings with no hits or walks and three strikeouts. Kelvin Ramirez (S, 1) finished it off with two innings of no hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

PEABODY RBI SINGLE WALKS IT OFF FOR INLAND EMPIRE

The Inland Empire 66ers got a two-out run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extras, then Mike Peabody singled in the installed runner in the 10th for a 2-1 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Tuesday.

The 66ers were shut out for eight innings and entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 1-0. Rolondo Flores hit a ground-rule double to bring in the tying run with two outs. Flores was 2-for-4 on the night.

Quinton Martinez (W, 2-1) struck out the side in the top of the 10th. Martinez went two innings without allowing any runs or hits while striking out five.

RAWHIDE DROP QUAKES FOR SERIES WIN

The Visalia Rawhide won for the third night in a row, defeating the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 11-4 on Monday at LoanMart Field. LF Anderson Rojas was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs with two runs scored to lead the Rawhide’s 10-hit attack. Visalia drew nine walks with Riquelmin Cabral taking four of the free passes.

The visiting Rawhide scored the first six runs over their first four turns at bat to get out to a 6-0 lead. Starter Yoscar Pimentel (W, 1-1) went five innings and gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one to earn his first California League win.

MICHAEL ARROYO, PAYTON MARTIN NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Modesto SS Michael Arroyo was named Cal League Player of the Week for the week of June 19 – 25. The 18-year old from Columbia went 10-for-24 in hitting in all six games against Fresno. Arroyo has hit in 13 of 14 games with the Nuts and is slashing .348/.444/.652 since his promotion from the ACL on June 13th.

Rancho Cucamonga’s Payton Martin threw six scoreless innings over two appearances against Lake Elsinore to earn Cal League Pitcher of the Week honors. On Tuesday, the 19-year old started and went three innings with just one hit and one walk allowed against six strikeouts. On Sunday, Martin came out of the bullpen for three more shutout innings with no hits or walks and five strikeouts.

 

STOCKTON SHUTS OUT LAKE ELSINORE FOR SERIES SPLIT

Wander Guante threw seven scoreless innings and Cooper Uhl hit his first home run of the season to lead Stockton to a 6-0 win over Lake Elsinore on Sunday at The Diamond. Guante (W, 1-2) gave up just two hits and three walks against six strikeouts.

After the Ports put up three runs in the second inning, Uhl made it a 4-0 game with his solo shot in the fourth. Dereck Salom doubled in two runs in the sixth to make it 6-0.

Blaze Pontes pitched the final two innings for Stockton, giving up just one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

The Ports won the final two games of the six-game series to earn a series split.

Stockton (23-40) returns home on Tuesday night to open a series with San Jose. Lake Elsinore (30-30) travels to Rancho Cucamonga

INLAND EMPIRE OUTDUELS FRESNO 4-3

Mason Albright struck out 10 over seven innings and Jadiel Sanchez homered to lead the Inland Empire 66ers to a 4-3 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park. The visiting 66ers held off a series loss to the Grizzlies with their second win in the first five games of the series.

Albright (W, 5-3) allowed three earned run on four hits and two walks along with his season-high 10 Ks. Jared Southard finished off the game with two scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season. Southard allowed no hits and just one walk while striking out three.

Sanchez hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning to put IE up 2-0. Ryan Ritter cut the lead in half with an RBI double for Fresno in the fourth inning.

The 66ers stretched the lead in the fifth when two runs came in on an error by Ritter to make it 4-1. Fresno got a two-run home run from Jesus Burgain in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-3 and that was it for the scoring. Albright and Southard would not allow another hit the rest of the way.

The Grizzlies have won three of the first five games in the series with the finale on Sunday at 5:05PM.

NUTS BATS BREAK OUT IN 10-1 WIN OVER RAWHIDE

The middle of the Modesto Nuts batting order was a murderers row on Friday night in a 10-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide at Valley Strong Ballpark. The 2-6 hitters were 11-for-24 with two home runs with Gabriel Gonzalez and Freuddy Batista each collecting three hits.

It was more than enough support for the Modesto pitching staff as four hurlers combined to allow one run on six hits. Starter Tyler Cleveland (W, 4-4) gave up a run on four hits over six innings with no walks and six strikeouts.

Colin Davis hit a first-inning homer, his sixth, to start the scoring. Miguel Perez hit a three-run shot in the fourth, his second homer of the year.

Gavin Conticello went 2-for-5 for the Rawhide and homered for Visalia’s only run. After a slow start to the season, Conticello has batted .310/.396/.643 in June.

The Nuts evened up the six-game series at two games apiece. Game five is Saturday night at 7PM.
