A four-run eighth inning pushed the Inland Empire 66ers past the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a 5-4 win on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium. Coming up to bat with a 4-1 deficit, the 66ers (7-5) rallied for the win and took sole possession of first place in the South division.
The Quakes (6-6) did all of their scoring in a four-run second inning that included Jesus Galiz‘ fourth home run of the season. Starter Peter Heubeck kept the 66ers quiet, going five innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
IE got on the board in the fifth with an RBI double by Mason Holt and it remained 4-1 Quakes until the eighth. They did a little bit of everything in the winning rally with a walk, a stolen base, an HBP, two triples and two wild pitches. PH Cam Williams‘ two-run triple tied it up at 4-4 and he then scored on a wild pitch that proved to be the game-winner.
Jake Madden went five innings for the 66ers and allowed four runs on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts for a no-decision. Three relievers combined to shut out the Quakes over the final four innings on just three hits and no walks.
Inland Empire leads the six-game series 2-1 with game four on Friday night at 6:35PM.
