PUERTA KNOCKS IN GAME-WINNERS IN 11TH, QUAKES BEAT 66ERS

Jorge Puerta singled in two runs in the top of the 11th to provide the winning margin in Rancho Cucamonga’s 8-6 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium. A flurry of late scoring came out in favor of the Quakes as they now can go for a series split on Sunday.

Rancho took a 5-3 lead into eighth inning when Nelson Rada hit a two-out single with the bases loaded that saw the tying runs score before the third out was made on the bases.

Tied at five apiece, the game went into extas and they traded runs in the top of the 10th to make it 6-6. Puerta’s heroics in the 11th held up as Kelvin Ramirez (W, 2-1) got the final three outs to seal the win.

Inland Empire (8-6) remains in first place in the South division, now just a game ahead of the Quakes and the Visalia Rawhide, both at 7-7.

The final game of the series is Sunday at 5:35PM.
