Gabe Moncada capped a four-run first inning with his 12th home run of the year, a three-run shot, as the Modesto Nuts got out to an early lead and beat the Fresno Grizzlies 7-2 on Sunday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts and Grizzlies split their six-game series, with Fresno finishing with a five-game lead in the North division.

The Grizzlies cut the lead in half in the third inning on a two-run home run by Bryant Betancourt, his second of the year. But Modesto came right back with a run in the bottom of the inning and they added single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.
Riley Davis (W, 7-0) started and went 5 1/3 innings for the Nuts, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Three relievers shut out the Grizzlies the rest of the way.
