The Visalia Rawhide scored in each of the last three innings to overtake the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and come away with a 4-2 win at LoanMart Field Thursday night. Oscar Santos was 2-for-4 and started the offense with a seventh-inning home run, his fourth of the year.
The game was scoreless through five innings. Visalia starter Peniel Otano went 6 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Both runs came on solo homers, one each by Hector Martinez (1) and Yunior Garcia (6).
Carlos Meza (W, 6-2) got the last out of the seventh and loaded the bases in the eighth before being relieved by Junior Mieses (S, 5) who shut down the threat. Mieses went the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit and no runs or walks while striking out three.
With Rancho Cucamonga up 1-0 on Martinez’ sixth-inning home run, Santos tied it up with a solo shot in the seventh. Garcia launched his bomb in the bottom of the seventh to make it 2-1, Rancho.
Sheng-Ping Chen and Deyvison De Los Santos each singled in runs in the eighth to give Visalia its first lead at 3-2. The Rawhide tacked on another run in the ninth with the help of Rancho Cucamonga’s third error of the night.
Maddux Bruns went two scoreless innings to start the game for the Quakes, giving up no hits and one walk while striking out three. Huei-Sheng Lin went 5 2/3 innings in relief and gave up one run on two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.
At 4-2, Visalia is tied with Lake Elsinore for first place in the South division. Rancho Cucamonga (2-4) is two games back. The Rawhide have won two of the first three games of the six-game series with game four on Friday night at 6:30PM.
