SAN JOSE’S 9-RUN INNING LEADS TO 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

All but one San Jose batter had a multi-hit game on Friday night as the Giants posted a 14-3 win at Modesto. 1b Abdiel Layer went 4-for-6 and C Rodolfo  Bone went 4-for-5 with a HR (1) to lead a 21-hit attack.

The Giants went up big early as they scored nine runs without hitting a home run in the second inning. 15 men came to the plate as San Jose had 10 hits and drew two walks to go up 9-0. Modesto starter Brayan Perez was chased after 1 2/3 having given up 9 earned runs on 12 hits and a walk.

RHP Wil Jensen (W, 4-0) went five shutout innings and allowed two hits and no walks while striking out six.

CF Luis Matos went 2-for-6 with 3 RBIs for the  Giants. Matos has hit in all four games of the series at Modesto, going 7-for-20 at the plate.

Modesto CF Victor Labrada went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Labrada has hit in eight straight games, going 12-for-35.

With Fresno’s game at Stockton postponed on Friday night, the Giants (41-23) pulled to within 1 1/2 games of the Grizzlies (42-21) in the division and for the best record in Low-A West.

Glenallen Hill Jr. went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored from the leadoff spot to spark Visalia’s early offense. The Rawhide scored in each of the first 3 innings to go up 5-0. Junior Mieses (W, 2-4) had a badly needed effective start for the Rawhide, 5IP, 5H, 3R (2ER), 3BB, 4K. Gerald Ogando covered the final 2 1/3 for Visalia, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K.

Lake Elsinore’s Robert Hassell III went  3-for-5 and has hit in 5 straight, all multi-hit games (13-for-23). Joshua Mears stayed hot, going 2-for-4 with a double. Mears has gone 14-for-36 over his last 9 games with 6 HRs.
