STORM HOLD ON FOR 6-5 WIN, SPLIT SERIES WITH QUAKES

The Lake Elsinore Storm stranded the tying run on base and earned a series split with a 6-5 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday at LoanMart Field. At 26-28, the Storm remained five games out of first place in the South division, two games ahead of first-half winner Rancho Cucamonga (24-30).

The Quakes took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but didn’t score again until the bottom of the ninth, coming up just short. The Storm chipped away with six unanswered runs in the meantime.

PINALES GOES SIX STRONG IN LAKE ELSINORE WIN OVER QUAKES

Emmanuel Pinales threw six innings and combined with three relievers to hold the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to five hits and two runs in a 5-2 Lake Elsinore win on Saturday night at LoanMart Field. The Storm won for the second time in five games, salvaging the possibility of a series split.

Pinales (W, 3-0) gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts over his six innings. The 22-year old right-hander threw 76 pitches, 48 for strikes.

Romeo Sanabria doubled in a run to start the scoring in the third inning, putting Lake Elsinore up 1-0. After Rancho Cucamonga struck for two runs in the bottom of the inning, Lake Elsinore rallied for three in the top of the fourth, taking the lead for good. Brandon Karpathios tripled in a pair of runs to put the Storm up 3-2 and another run came in on a Nick Vogt RBI single.

Vogt had three hits on Saturday and is 10-for-19 in the series. Sanabria had two doubles and has gone 6-for-19 in the five games against Rancho Cucamonga.

Josue De Paula doubled and walked twice, scoring one run and driving in another. The 18-year old outfielder is 7-for-19 with two doubles and a home run in the five games against Lake Elsinore.

The Storm pulled back to one game ahead of the Quakes with game six on Sunday at 4:00 pm.

BIG INNINGS PUSH QUAKES PAST STORM

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes had a pair of six-run innings to top Lake Elsinore’s one five-run inning in a 12-5 win at LoanMart Field on Friday night. Josue De Paula hit a grand slam and Luis Rodriguez had three hits to lead Rancho Cucamonga’s 12-hit attack.

Lake Elsinore threw a pair of MLBers start the game with wildly different results. Drew Pomeranz started the game and struck out the side on 14 pitches. Tim Hill came out for the second inning and didn’t do quite as well. The 33-year old lefty got two outs, but allowed six runs on seven hits, five of the runs earned.

QUAKES HOLD OFF STORM

Lake Elsinore @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 2

Jared Karros threw six scoreless innings and Luis Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes withstood a late-inning surge to defeat the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-4 on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field. The Quakes have won the first two games of the series and have caught the Storm at 23-27 for second place in the South division.

Karros (W, 3-4) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four in his six innings. The 22-year old right-hander thew 54 pitches, 42 for strikes. Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk and drove in the first run of the game with a second-inning RBI double.

66ERS TAKE THIRD STRAIGHT FROM QUAKES

Inland Empire @ Rancho Cucamonga Gm 3

The Inland Empire 66ers got back-to-back homers in the fourth inning and dropped the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 5-3 on Thursday night, making it three straight wins in the six-game series. Alberto Rios hit a two-run shot to break a 1-1 tie and Cam Williams followed with a solo homer, giving the 66ers a lead they would never give up.

Four pitchers held the Quakes to single runs in third, sixth and seventh as they tried to claw their way back, but a sac fly by Williams in the eighth made it 5-3.

66ERS TAKE SERIES WITH 12-6 WIN OVER QUAKES

The Inland Empire 66ers used a 7-run inning to break open a close game and went on to win 12-6 over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the finale of the six-game series at San Manuel Stadium. The 66ers earned the series win, four games to two, and stretched their second-half lead in the South division to two games over the Quakes, Visalia and Lake Elsinore.

Trailing 3-2 going to the bottom of the fifth, IE rallied for seven runs, taking the lead back when Johan Macias hit into a fielder’s choice that brought in two runs. The offense kept rolling and the 66ers added on, highlighted by a two-run single by Mike Peabody. The Quakes helped out by issuing three walks, two wild pitches and a HBP.

PEABODY RBI SINGLE WALKS IT OFF FOR INLAND EMPIRE

The Inland Empire 66ers got a two-out run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extras, then Mike Peabody singled in the installed runner in the 10th for a 2-1 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Tuesday.

The 66ers were shut out for eight innings and entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 1-0. Rolondo Flores hit a ground-rule double to bring in the tying run with two outs. Flores was 2-for-4 on the night.

Quinton Martinez (W, 2-1) struck out the side in the top of the 10th. Martinez went two innings without allowing any runs or hits while striking out five.
