WENDELL’S STRONG START AND 4-RUN SECOND INNING LIFT RAWHIDE

Stockton @ Visalia Gm 4

A four-run second inning gave the Visalia Rawhide all of the offense they needed in a 5-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Friday night at Valley Strong Ballpark. Anderson Rojas plated three runners to start the scoring and Wyatt Wendell struck out seven over six innings while allowing just one run on three hits and a walk.

The Rawhide won for the third night in a row and have taken three of the first four games in the six-game series.

Rojas singled with the bases loaded and brought home two runners with a third coming in on an error. Cristofer Torin singled in Rojas to make it 4-0 and Visalia was on its way to victory.

Wendell (W, 3-7) threw 88 pitches (54 strikes) and struck out four consecutive batters over the second and third innings. Josh Swales came on in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four.

The Rawhide are now 14-20 and remain five games behind Inland Empire in the South division. The Ports are 11-23, 15 games out in the North.

Game five of the six-game series is Saturday night at 7PM.
