Jared Sundstrom capped off a six-run rally with a grand slam home run that proved to be the difference in Modesto’s 7-3 win over Visalia on Friday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts came back from 3-1 down to win for the third time in four games vs. the Rawhide.
Michael Morales (W, 5-4) gave up one earned run over five innings but left the game trailing. The right-hander allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Two unearned runs had the Nuts trailing 3-1 going to the bottom of the fifth when the six-run rally made a winner of Morales.
Josh Hood was 1-for-2 with two walks, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. The 2022 sixth-round pick has gone 18-for-41 during the streak.
Walking Cabrera had three hits and Milkar Perez was 2-for-4 with a double.
Morales and three relievers held the Rawhide to just two hits. Jose Fernandez singled and drove in two runs for Visalia.
The Nuts are 13-15, eight games out of first place in the North division. The Rawhide (11-17) remain six games back in the South division.
Game five of the six-game series is Saturday at 6:05PM.
