GONZALEZ GEM LEADS LAKE ELSINORE TO SERIES WIN OVER SAN JOSE

Jesus Gonzalez (W, 2-2) struck out seven batters over seven innings and allowed just two runs (1 ER) on six hits and no walks as the Lake Elsinore Storm beat the San Jose Giants 6-2 on Sunday. Carlos Duarte hit his fourth homer of the season and Victor Duarte hit his first to lead the offense.

The solo homers came back-to-back to lead off the second inning for the Storm. Two walks came around to score to make it 4-0 after two. Gonzalez made it stand up and Yerry Landinez (S, 2) threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save. Landinez gave up one hit and struck out three with no walks allowed.

Neither Storm pitcher issued a walk.

Luis, Duarte and Charlis Aquino each had two hits for Lake Elsinore. Duarte drove in three runs.

Dilan Rosario was 2-for-3 for San Jose and Rayner Santana drove in a run. Will Bednar (L, 1-3) took the loss with 3IP, 4H, 4R (3ER), 3BB, 1K. Evan Gates threw two dominant innings in relief with no runs, hits or walks allowed, striking out five.

Lake Elsinore (34-23) won four of the six games in the series and remained two games ahead of Rancho Cucamonga in the South division. San Jose (32-25) gave up another game in the standings to Fresno and is now six games back in the North.

Lake Elsinore travels to Modesto to start the next series on Tuesday night at 7:05PM. The Giants host Fresno starting Tuesday at 6:30PM.
