STOCKTON SHUTS OUT SAN JOSE, MUNCY HAS 4 HITS

The Stockton Ports got a combined shutout from three pitchers and Max Muncy had four hits, including two home runs, in a 3-0 victory over San Jose Thursday night. Starter Luke Anderson (W, 3-2) went 7 innings and allowed 5 hits and 5 walks with 6 strikeouts to earn the win.

Muncy, the Oakland A’s #5 prospect, got the visiting Ports on the board with a first-inning home run, his 9th of the year, and that was it for the scoring until the fifth inning. Muncy went back-to-back with Kevin Richards to put Stockton up 3-0 and that is how it ended. Muncy now has 10 homers on the year and Richards has 7.

Robin Vazquez pitched the eighth inning for Stockton and allowed no runs, hits or walks with one strikeout. Hunter Breault got the ninth, and he had to face the tying run after allowing two singles, but escaped with no damage and earned his seventh save.

Victor Bericoto had two hits for San Jose. Landon Roupp covered the last four innings for the Giants and shutout the Ports on 2 hits and 1 walk with 9 strikeouts.

The Giants (28-20) remain three games behind the first-place Fresno Grizzlies in the North division. Stockton (18-30) sits 13 games out.

San Jose has won two of the first three games of the six-game series. Game four goes Friday night at 6:30PM
