FERGUSON’S BASES-CLEARING DOUBLE LEADS STORM TO 5-2 WIN

The Lake Elsinore Storm had a four-run second inning, led by Max Ferguson‘s bases-loaded double, and four pitchers made it stand up in a 5-2 win over Inland Empire at The Diamond on Tuesday night. Starter Kobe Robinson struck out nine in four innings for Lake Elsinore.

The Storm (24-16) maintained its two-game lead over Rancho Cucamonga (22-18) in the South division with the win.

The home team rallied in the second inning by loading the bases with two walks and an HBP. Ferguson cleared the bases with his double and, after Ferguson stole third, Lucas Dunn brought home the fourth run with an infield out.

After the 66ers scratched for a run in the top of the third, Carlos Luis drove in a run with a sac fly in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-1, Lake Elsinore. Starlin Gill singled in a run in the fifth for Inland Empire to finish off the scoring at 5-2.

Robinson allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine over four innings. Yerry Landinez (W, 2-1) went innings in relief for the Storm and allowed a run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Dunn had two of Lake Elsinore’s four hits. The 66ers had just five hits, led by Jeremy Arocho‘s two singles.

Game two of the series is at 6:05 Wednesday night.
