Stockton shortstop Robert Puason lifted a double to right-center field that scored the installed runner from second base with the winning run in a 9-8, 10-inning win over San Jose Tuesday. The Ports trailed 7-2 after five innings before scoring in each frame the rest of the way.
Puason went 2-for-5 and has now hit in five straight games, lifting his batting average from .196 to .239.
Kevin Richards had a huge day at the plate for Stockton, going 4-for-5 with two home runs (2, 3).
Clark Cota (W, 2-1) went the final 2 1/3 for the Ports, allowing no runs, hits or walks with three strikeouts.
Grant McCray went 4-for-5 for San Jose with four RBIs and his third homer of the season.
The Ports host the Giants in game two of the six-game series on Wednesday at 7:05PM.
