CLARKE, MYERS NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OF Denzel Clarke and RHP Mitch Myers, both of the Stockton Ports, earned Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for April 11-17.

DENZEL CLARKE – After going hitless in the first two games against Modesto, Clarke went 10-for-19 with three home runs the rest of the series. The Oakland A’s’ #16 prospect is slashing .333/.350/.615 for the young season and is tied for second in the Cal League with 13 hits and 3 homers.

MITCH MYERS – On Wednesday night, Myers threw six scoreless innings against Modesto, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The right-hander out of Pittsburgh left with a 3-0 lead having thrown 74 pitches, 48 for strikes.

CLARKE HOMERS TWICE, PORTS EVEN SERIES WITH NUTS

Stockton’s bats broke out for the second night in a row, led by Denzel Clarke‘s two home runs, in a 14-10 win over Modesto at Banner Island Ballpark Friday night. Clarke, the Oakland A’s #17 prospect, led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot and added a three-run bomb in the seventh. Stockton got three more long balls in outlasting the Nuts to even the series at two games apiece.

A three-run first inning and a six-run fourth put Stockton up 9-2 with rehabbing big-leaguer James Kaprielian in control but the Nuts got to Stockton’s bullpen and made it a slugfest.

PORTS WIN BEHIND BATS AND BULLPEN

The Stockton Ports got in the win column on Thursday night when the offense erased deficits of 5-0 and 6-1 and three relievers locked down the Modesto Nuts for an 11-6 win at Banner Island Ballpark. Denzel Clarke had four hits and drove in three runs, including his first home run of the season.

It was the first win of 2022 for Stockton (1-5) and kept them three games back of Fresno (4-2) in the North division. Modesto (3-3) is one game out.

MODESTO’S 8-RUN INNING KEEPS STOCKTON WINLESS

The Modesto Nuts woke up in a big way with an 8-run seventh inning that sent them to a 10-3 win at Stockton on Wednesday night. The Ports were up 3-0 and seemingly in control until a three-run homer by Ben Ramirez knotted up the game with one out. After that, the floodgates opened.

A single and an HBP followed but the Ports got the second out of the inning and looked to get back in the dugout and find a way to win their first game of the season. But what followed was a sequence of wild pitch, wild pitch, walk, walk, walk and then, with Modesto up 5-3, Milkar Perez hit a bases-clearing double to make it 8-3.

RAWHIDE PLAY LONGBALL ON OPENING NIGHT

The Visalia Rawhide kicked off the 2022 California League season with a four-homer attack that took down the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a score of 8-4 Friday night. Righty starter Joe Elbis threw four shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out eight in front of a home crowd of 3,093 at Valley Strong Ballpark.

The game and the season couldn’t have started any better for the Rawhide. Elbis struck out the side on 11 pitches in the top of the first inning to set the stage for 2021 first-round draft pick (#6 overall) Jordan Lawlar to take his first AB of the season. The SS batting out of the #2 hole with one out drilled one over the fence to put Visalia up 1-0.
