GIANTS GET 5 IN 10TH TO BEAT RAWHIDE

The San Jose Giants coughed up a 5-1 lead on Tuesday night in Visalia but got five runs in the 10th inning to win 10-5 over the Rawhide. Victor Bericoto had three hits and Julio Rodriguez (W, 1-0) threw two scoreless innings for the Giants.

Max Wright doubled in the installed runner in the top of the 10th to put San Jose up 6-5 and then the wheels fell off for Visalia. After a walk to Vaun Brown, San Jose scored on an HBP, a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk.

Shane Muntz went 3-for-5 for the Rawhide, including a double and his second home run of the year. Muntz knocked in four of Visalia’s five runs.

San Jose jumped on Visalia starter Diomede Sierra for a run in the first and three more in the third. Sierra went 2 2/3 and allowed four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out six. The right-hander out of the Dominican Republic got two quick outs in both the first and third innings before running into trouble.

Alexander Suarez went 2-for-2, including a two-run single in the 10th inning for San Jose.

Five Rawhide pitchers combined to issue seven walks and the team made five errors.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at 6:30PM.
