GIANTS EDGE MODESTO, KEEP PACE IN NORTH DIVISION

The San Jose Giants got homers from Ricardo Genovese and Marco Luciano while starter Carson Ragsdale threw four shutout innings en route to a 6-5 victory over Modesto Tuesday night. The win kept San Jose tied with the Fresno Grizzlies for first place in the North division, both with records of 25-12.

Genovese got the Giants on the board with a two-run shot in the first inning and that was it for both teams till the fifth, as Ragsdale kept the Nuts scoreless while yielding two hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over 4 IP. Cade Marlowe broke through for Modesto with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth off of reliever Randy Rodriguez and later came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2.

Luciano put San Jose back on top to stay with a two-run shot in the sixth, his 8th of the season, and Brett Auerbach hit a sac fly that saw two runners score to make it 6-2. Modesto clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell just short at 6-5.

San Jose has won four straight while the Nuts suffered their third straight loss and are now four games behind the Giants and Grizzlies.
