Deja vu at Excite Ballpark on Saturday night as the San Jose Giants won a 3-2 game over the Stockton Ports with a tie-breaking single in the middle innings and five shutout innings by the bullpen. Just like Friday night, the tight contest featured shutdown innings from both bullpens with San Jose coming out on top.
Alexander Suarez‘ three-hit night featured the game-winner, a single to left in the fifth inning that gave the Giants a 3-2 lead. After starter Mauricio Estrella held the Ports to two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over the first four innings, Jorge Garcia (W, 1-0) came on for three hitless innings, allowing two walks and striking out two. Luis Moreno (S, 2) finished it off with two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.
Zach Morgan had three hits and two RBIs for San Jose. All of the Giants’ 14 hits were singles.
Pedro Pineda led off the game for Stockton with his first home run of the season.
San Jose (10-13) remains eight games behind Fresno in the North divsion. Stockton (8-15) is 10 games back.
Game six of the series is Sunday at 6:05PM.
