The Stockton Ports opened their six-game series in Visalia with a four-run first inning and went on to a 7-1 win over the Rawhide at Valley Strong Ballpark on Tuesday. Henry Bolte belted a two-run homer to start the scoring, then added a solo shot in the third inning to lead the Stockton offense.
The Ports chased Visalia starter Jacob Steinmetz with two outs in the first inning when the right-hander reached the organizational limit for pitches in an inning. Steinmetz left with two on and two out, down 2-0 and his two runners came in on a Cooper Uhl single that made it 4-0 Stockton.
Stockton starter Tzu-Chen Sha held the Rawhide to one run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts over three IP. Garrett Irvin (W, 7-1) came on for three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout to earn the win.
The Nuts climbed over the .500 mark at 16-15 for the second half and are seven games behind Fresno in the North division in second place. Visalia dropped its fourth straight game and is now 11-20, seven games out in the South.
Game two is Wednesday at 7PM.
