GIANTS POWER PAST PORTS FOR GM 2 WIN

Stockton @ San Jose Gm 2

The San Jose Giants got a pair of key home runs and starter Manuel Mercedes pitched five shutout innings in a 6-3 win over Stockton on Saturday night at Excite Ballpark. The Giants have won the first two games of the six-game series.

Andrew Kachel hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Giants a lead they would never relinquish. Mercedes allowed three hits and two strikeouts over his five innings and left the game with the 2-0 lead. San Jose added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Kachel doubled to make it 3-0.

After Stockton got on the board with a Henry Bolte home run (8) in the sixth, Tanner O’Tremba stretched out the Giants’ lead to 6-1 with a three-run shot in the eighth. Stockton posted two runs in the top of the ninth but fell short.

San Jose (8-12) have won four of their last five games and are now eight games out of first place in the North division. Stockton (7-13) sits nine games back.

The six-game series continues on Thursday at 6:30PM.
