The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes raced out to a 7-0 lead and held on for a 9-7 win over Lake Elsinore on Wednesday night at The Diamond. New Quake Nick Biddison hit his first home run and fellow newcomer Kyle Nevin had two hits, a walk, two RBIs and scored three runs.
The visitors scored in each of the first four innings before Lake Elsinore got on the board with an RBI single from Samuel Zavala to make it 7-1.
Sean McLain singled in a run in the sixth to put Rancho back up by seven at 8-1. Then it all nearly fell apart for the Quakes as the Storm put up six runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull to within 8-7. But Christian Suarez and Reinaldo De Paula (S, 2) combined to finish the game with four scoreless innings and the Quakes tacked on one more to finish it at 9-7.
Marcos Castanon was 2-for-4 with a walk and hit his 16th homer of the year for Lake Elsinore. Zavala was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Lake Elsinore (22-16) still leads the South division by a game over Lake Elsinore. Rancho Cucamonga (18-20) is four games back.
